Do the right thing? What kind of crazy talk is THAT? This is some seriously insane stuff. How many people are listening to this idiot and nodding while saying "that's right"? The republicans have spent decades proving that doing what's right for the country and the people living in it is the furthest thing from their tiny little minds. At least they're saying it out loud and quite clearly at that.
The chair of the Republican Party in Washington County, Pennsylvania has strongly criticized Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) for voting to convict former President Donald Trump.
David Ball told local CBS affiliate KDKA on Monday that state Republicans had sent Toomey to Washington to represent them and argued that he should have toed the party line.
"We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever he said he was doing," Ball said. "We sent him there to represent us."

The establishment GOPs created the monster and now they are trying to contain it at the cost of Democracy and the well being of the American people.

(3,605 posts)The whole idea of the Senate is that Senators would be freer to vote their conscience and less tied to the "mob mentality" than representatives who have to report back to their constituents every two years. And the oath that senators took at the start of the impeachment trial specifically says that they will impartially weigh the evidence. Mr. Ball doesn't know how his own country is supposed to work.

A large swath of the Republicans have a severe lack of empathy, the Do Unto Others standard is not any part of their thought process.

Sorry Blue folk in Washington Co., I feel for you but until the majority there comes to their senses no soup for you.

(7,263 posts)We live about 10 minutes away from South Hills Mall, usually 95% of the shoppers there at least try to follow the Covid rules in our experience.
We usually grocery shop on Friday evenings in our local Shop N Save as that is the least crowded time, but last week we had to go during the afternoon, there was one Karen in the store refusing to wear a mask, first one we have seen there in months. Fortunately she was on her way out.
She was middle aged, all barbied up, tall, and really stood out - the sour expression on her face as she was leaving the store without buying anything spoke volumes.

(808 posts)Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgement; and he betrays you instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion.
It very much applies in this situation.

They have fully embraced the dark side, and we have to deal with them as such.
