I have this scary suspicion that the Turtle-Trump discord is fake. Not sure about the nefarious motive. Maybe soaking up national attention and diverting from Biden's success? Maybe a false front to distract and disarm us while behind the scenes they consolidate their evil and greedy game plan.

I am definitely not prone to conspiracy thinking. I promise you that. I am just learning to look ever more closely for the GOP sleight of hand.

...at least on a certain portion of the populace. For some people, truth is never as compelling, especially compared to lies that stroke their egos and feed their favorite victimization narratives.

A whole network of lurkers like the kGOP have is what we need

It might not be necessary to change our tactics if the GOP continues to disintegrate.

A month ago I was saying we should at least consider more drastic tactics, but we might be moving in the right direction of becoming a party that is coalesced around the idea of opposing the GOP as the party that opposes Democracy and has contempt for our founding principles and the Constitution.

The Republicans have become an identitarian party that is not seriously about issues (other than figleaves like abortion, "religious freedoms" and immigration) but simply opposing us. They are now clarifying who they are for all to see, and maybe we can coalesce around the idea of opposing them as fiercely as they oppose us. I thought for a long time this couldn't happen unless we actually made it happen, but it seems to be happening by itself. Voters motivated by anger at the other side, Ezra Klein argues (and IMO proves) in his book Why We're Polarized are consistently more reliable and turn out in greater numbers even in midterm elections. Voters like that do not "split the ticket." They vote straight ticket; they get out there no matter what.

At that point politics moves beyond policy and becomes about who we are as people.

No we should NOT start our own lying and disinformation campaign. Not only do I believe that somebody should stand for truth and decency, but I hope to G*d that our firebrands have realize that not only the Republicans, but the arrrogant, lazy-@$$ $h1t-clowns holding down positions in the editorial and administrative positions in the lamestream corporate new media have institutionalized double standards when it comes to talking about Republicans and Democrats. Republicans are allowed to lie and lie shamelessly, embroider their lies, then amplify them, and the lame-o hacks who call themselves journalists on broadcast media will either accept those lies as truth or blow them off as “boys being boys.”

On the other hand, if a Democrat lies or even makes an accidental mis-statement and gets caught, those same corporate media hacks will treat them as the biggest liars since Joseph Goebbels, no matter how small or trivial the offense, and those guys’ journos will hang that offense around our necks for years.

I wish I’m exaggerating, but I’m not.

A precise EFFECTIVE information campaign!

The Dems have useful, sane, life-affirming and decent policies, but we seem to remain at a perpetual deficit with regards to messaging. Seems we've improved somewhat, but we are still lacking. What to do? We need a Carville/Abrams/Sanders/Buttigieg/Bill Clinton/Madison Avenue hybrid drafting our messaging and training other democratic politicians.

There are millions of people in the middle ideologically who BELIEVE that "all media lies", that "both sides are just as bad", that "all politicians lie".

Don't give them proof.

They just have to get better at getting out true information.

And get them to trust unbiased sources that have actual research, documentation, evidence and facts.

Would we be any better than the other liars, bullshitters and cons?

The reality of what they are only needs light and witness. We need no O'keefes.

The GOP has achieved a critical mass of suck. Floor-to-ceiling, bare-assed, malevolent suck.

We should always embrace innocence, of which the signature characteristic is honesty, because as soon as you become dishonest, you embrace corruption and that is like an infection, creating damage in unforeseen places. If we embark on such dishonesty, we would no longer trust each other.
