NASDAC down 13.9k, S&P 500 down 3900. Wall street must be more heavily invested in wind turbines than I thought.

(4,477 posts)You are right, the OP information is incorrect.
I nearly lost my lunch, my mind, and my entire retirement.

(70 posts)You're not even close. But that was down on 119, not 35,000.

(31,261 posts)A loss like that would have given close to a zero Dow. And soup lines would have popped up at 6pm.

(833 posts)The Dow Jones average is -31,493.34. That's -38% from yesterday.
The NASDAQ is 13,865.36 in the red. The change is -72% from yesterday.
The S&P 500 is -3913.97 or down 44% from yesterday.
Interpret those numbers as you choose. They are the numbers. They aren't materially different from those I originally posted.
I meant to make a joke about wind turbines, which obviously wasn't funny. Instead, I got criticized for writing sentence fragments. I was an English teacher for thirty-four years, and I do know how to write a sentence. I've seen the same sort of thing on this forum, without comment. I'll be on my very best grammatical behavior, hereafter.

(833 posts)My more recent post used minus signs. To my mind, they say the same thing.
I really think there's a misunderstanding, possibly mine as I have little stock market expertise. I was merely copying numbers. Some responders to the OP clearly saw different numbers than I did o CNBC. I can't explain the discrepancy.
Karma13612
(4,477 posts)A full 38% from yesterday. It is down 0.38% from yesterday. Not 38%
Its the decimal place that will get ya every time!!

(833 posts)If I've erred, it has been an honest, and possibly stupid, mistake. I frequent this forum because of the understanding and collegiality. I've received the benefit of neither, here. I will not brook being called a liar. (Notice, for future reference, that I have not returned your post with a similar slur.) So I'm out. Any further responses will be to the ether.

(23,888 posts)You must admit that the OP appeared to state that the DOW was down 31,000 points.
And rightly or wrongly, low post count offerings are often viewed with extra skepticism.
Having followed this thread, I believe that I understand what you were attempting to say, and that any claim that you lied is, at least to me, unfounded.
I hope you come back, and try again.

(23,888 posts)That was the extent of the "doubling down".
I often watch CNBC, and they do employ a dash in front of market numbers; but without thinking, I jumped in to attack the OP as as well.
Then I thought it over.
His or her second post was to say Alpha Mike Foxtrot. And I don't really blame them.
YMMV
Celerity
(40,681 posts)they repeat it and double down, adding more incorrect info that clearly shows they did not make a simple error (like leaving out 'TO' as in 'down to' )

(833 posts)and if I post again, I'll much more circumspect. And, btw, how does one achieve a high post count without posting to an audience that views those posts with suspicion. I'm in my eighth decade, and I feel like the kid who can't get hired because he has no experience and can't get experience because nobody will hire him.
