CO-5 Rep Lamborn took her on a tour of the Purblo Chemical Depot last week. This terrifies me. Next thing you knew, it'll be NORAD. She'll probably bring her gun too.

She is on a handful of caucuses, most notably the 2nd Amendment caucus.
I wonder why the other new loony had several committee assignments... hmm.

(67,782 posts)....lambasted about her potential FEC campaign finance violations and her rap sheet.
It appears that she got reimbursed by her campaign $20,000+ "mileage" during the campaign. That's calculates to more than 40,000 miles of driving during the campaign! Coincidentally, she had a $20,000 lien on her restaurant by the state of Colorado for back taxes. That magically got paid last fall!
Then there's the rap sheet, which is two pages long:

(4,613 posts)When I was in HS, U.S. Government was a required class for a semester in your senior year in order to graduate.

(64,425 posts)One term is american history. The next term is civics & the constitution.
Some schools do it early and it's 7th grade. But, the vast majority do 8th grade.

(4 posts)I grew up in Illinois (high school class of '02) and I don't think I had any civics/us history until high school. But maybe I just don't remember?
ProfessorGAC
(64,425 posts)It was that way when I was in 8th grade ('69-'70).
And, one of my band mate's brother was a social studies teacher from around 1976 to 2016. (He retired 2 years before I did.). He did civics & constitution to 8th graders for at least 30 of those years.
Starting in 2017, it was no longer a requirement for middle school, and was adjusted to somewhere between 7th grade and senior year. The district gets to choose.
For districts that share a HS though, it has to be done in middle school. That way kids in HS aren't taking the same thing twice because another district didn't do it for 8th graders.
But for self contained k-12 districts, they can decide to do it anytime between 7th & 12 grades.
Of the 9 middle schools or junior highs I've been to in the last 2 years, only one was doing it in 7th. The rest were 8th grade. Obviously, I can't speak for the other 2,000+ districts!
But, prior to 2017 it was a requirement that it be done in middle school, preferably 8th grade.

(7,884 posts)Political Science was required one semester in Jr. High School and one semester in High School.
I went back to college as a full-time working adult here in California (at 36 years old) and was able to find a wonderful program (PACE) at the community college in the Valley and then transferred to Cal State. I received my bachelor's degree in 1998. The classes were pre-selected for us for this program. My intention was to get a general degree so I could apply for the many positions available (in my field - administration in the career college world) that specify degree required.
I ended up absolutely LOVING the classes I took and my degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies. I recently figured it out and I took a total of six semesters in Political Science. I was very fortunate because the classes were awesome and the teachers were great.

(28,939 posts)You know, the first amendment and, yes, the second as that seems to be only one she knows.
The original articles outline the gov't's rights and obligations, what it can and can do.
Then a few people pointed out that USC said nothing about the gov't's rights and obligations toward We the People, you know the sovereign entity of the nation. They didn't like what they were reading and wanted some changes made.

(7,399 posts)I'm laughing. It is funny. But, I'm trying not to cry while laughing. Because it is hard on people that have to be around those who are stupid. I always mess up and try talking to them like they have sense. I give people the benefit of the doubt and I don't want to insult people, or hurt their feelings. But, I'm always sorry I even started the conversation. It is especially hard when they don't know they are stupid and they are laboring under the impression that they are rather intelligent ( idk where they got that impression, but somehow, they did) I get exasperated and frustrated, trying to explain things. I really can't stand two things. 1. A person acting as though they don't understand, or they don't get what I'm talking about, when I think they do. Or conversely pretending to understand something or have knowledge and experience about something, which they do not, but will insist that they do. 2. Someone who keeps mindlessly bleating the same statement, almost word, for word, to every reply of mine. Over, and over, like a mulishly stubborn robot. They aren't listening at all. Just waiting for a place to jump in and bleat their statement. Again. I may have paused for emphasis or a breath, but the person only hears my voice stop. Boom! They jump right in the middle of what I was saying, and we're off, on an unrelated tangent.
One of the worst verbal arguments I ever had with someone was a result of a discussion of the Oedipus Complex, and the Electra Complex, according to Freud. This person could carry on an intelligent conversation. At least I didn't feel as though I had to use small words when talking to him. He professed to know something about psychology. He lied.
I get very happy, and animated whenever I find someone I can have interesting discussions with. It happens so rarely in this small Texas town in Hooteritaville Junction, Texas that I'm marooned in ( that name is made up, btw. I wouldn't be surprised though) These are topics most people don't think about and surely do not understand. They can become belligerently offended by some topics, The are a rigid, and stubborn people. They may not ever have a concept the subjects of these topics exist, at all.
So I am excited when I get to discuss some interesting concepts, and controversial subjects with anyone having some real knowledge and an open mind. As well as, psychological theories I'm finding to be of interest, lately.
*By the end of it all, after he continued mindlessly circling back around and insisting on there being some creepy child molestation adult sexual conclusion to be drawn from what I was saying, which there most definitely was not.
I exploded.
The conversation that started with a civilized educated discussion, degenerated into, me screaming that he was a stubborn obtuse jackass, and a sick mothereffing freak.
Right before I seemed to begin speaking in tongue's. I was so angry, I couldn't form complete words anymore.
And, that's when I threw his stupid ass out of my apartment.
A person has to draw the line at the amount of stupidity they are willing to endure.
I apparently draw it at it being driven into losing the ability to articulate words.
It is so...very....hard.

(24,321 posts)because of the supposed right to "bear arms" anywhere they want, because the Heller decision is settled law (If it had gone the other way, who knows? ), yet don't similarly defend a woman's right to abortion services even though Roe v. Wade predates Heller by over 30 years?
If I have to concede Heller is established law, and put up with assholes like Boebert carrying a gun in a bar, or morons insisting they need a semi-auto to shop at Home Depot, why the ever living fuck can't the right wing leave women alone?
