US could reach herd immunity by summer through vaccinations alone, CNN analysis finds

CNN)The pace of Covid-19 vaccine administration in the US continues to improve, each day bringing the country closer to herd immunity -- the point at which enough people are protected against a disease that it cannot spread.

This week, President Joe Biden said that the US will have enough vaccine for every adult by the end of May, and a CNN analysis of federal data shows that herd immunity is likely not far behind.

At the current pace of about 2 million shots per day -- the latest seven-day average of doses administered reported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- the US could reach herd immunity by summer through vaccinations alone. It will likely be even sooner, if factoring in individuals who may have some natural immunity due to prior infection.

I have faith that the Biden administration will be able to keep this promise.

Their level of natural immunity is most likely a lot lower than what we have "achieved" in the last year as well.

Trying to find a vaccine for my wife. A new contingent of people became eligible on Monday. Doesn't seem to be a shot available in all of Connecticut. Hoping things change soon.

Also CVS and Walgreens. You have to be on it constantly and refresh the page. It took me a week and finally got one at CVS. I had two others looking for me as well. Stay on top of it and don't give up.

I heard that Conn. is opening up with restrictions. Get vacinated and stay masked.

Good luck.

What the level of vaccinations needed to get to that point is up for discussion.

But that most of those who in November said, "No way," are now wavering.

The 18% are going to get the benefit of the rest of us, and will probably boast about it. They are really unpleasant people.

In person schooling will be the incubators and it will spread out to the remaining unvaccinated and the anti-vaxxers.
