by Oliver Willis
The right makes up a fake controversy that they pound every hour on Fox News and Twitter, while the media peppers the Democratic administration with questions about the made-up outrage that sound as if they were dreamed up by the RNCs Ronna McDaniel and her team.
Thus far, Bidens response has largely been indifference to the fake controversy machine. He and Vice President Kamala Harris havent spent the early days of the presidency trying to put out phony fires, seeking to appease a conservative/Republican beast whose only goal is the destruction of liberalism.
Biden has kept his head down, setting realistic expectations after years of grandiose promises the press repeatedly fell for but were never delivered upon.
The dissatisfaction from the right and the press is palpable. Biden isnt jumping when they collectively demand he do so. He is not playing by the approved rules, where the right and the media set the agenda and the Democrats careen from crisis to crisis.

(3,383 posts)the most successful strategy to prove them wrong is GOOD GOVERNANCE.
Democrats have a very short window to return democracy to our republic. Filibuster reform followed by passage of voting rights legislation will demonstrate that we are a nation capable of governing ourselves.
A record of delivering meaningfull benefit to citizens will mute the racist dog whistles and religious dogma that dominates the "grievance" media machine.

(2,686 posts)The shisters on the Right really hate Bidens successes. And the viewers of their TV propaganda outlets are seeing an America unlike the one that you and I are seeing.
We see vaccinations and stimulus checks.
They are treated to smug, mendacious reporters declaiming about the horrors at the border.
We see and hear about anti-asian racism, vicious attacks on the elderly, mass murder of young women.
The are shown interviews with happy, contented Asian Americans angry that the little thing like happened in Atlanta and the occasional beatings of of old people by white racists are being used by the socialist-liberals to portray, OMG, racism!
The right wing consists of feeders of shiste and eaters of shiste, period.

(2,013 posts)The right and the press are also being frustrated by the fact that Biden's humanity, humility, work ethic, and just plain decency shine through everything he does and says. All but the most addled Trump supporters can't help but recognize Biden for what he is: a good, decent man trying his best to do a good job.

(80,700 posts)Stay the course, President Biden! Youve got this right, you read and understand the bad guys (and YES. I will CONTINUE to call them what they ARE: The BAD GUYS). Keep it up Mr. President. You got an historic rescue bill PASSED in record time and its actually HELPING Americans who actually need help (instead of, yet again, helping to comfort the already-comfortable). And your first 100 days are barely half over.
Now lets get voter suppression CONQUERED, once and for ALL!!! H.R.1 AND S.1! NOW!!!

(46,804 posts)Biden has pretty much seen it all and isn't about to fall for that kind of "malarkey". He is staying focused on the urgent job at hand and not allowing media and GOP distractions to interfere.
Biden has been known to sometimes be short-tempered and defensive, but as President, he is letting all the slings and arrows slide right off him. It seems like his entire life was to prepare him for this moment.

(46,804 posts)The wise, decisive president able to calmly deflect the attacks from his critics while competently doing the job he was elected to do.
Joe Biden is not a good president because he has no weaknesses, he is a good president because he knows his weaknesses and is able to put his ego aside. He has worked with so many presidents and foreign leaders, he knows what true leadership is.
From Aaron Sorkin's The American President:
After four years of Donald Trump's "sand", people are hungry for real leadership and aren't willing to accept the phony bravado of a pompous TV personality anymore. The contrast between the two men is stunning.

(10,811 posts)The right and the media are having a very hard time getting a grasp on Joe Biden. For the right-wing it's all about taking a bite out of the man and his agenda. For the media it's all about having an issue to whip into an eyeball frenzy.
Yesterday someone put an OP up mentioning Chuck Todd's attempt to whip one of those issues: if Biden didn't meet the 100 million vaccinations by the end of his 100 days, his Administration would be a failure. (Cue to Todd: Biden met the self-imposed deadline early). As for the right-wing? They've now stated that Biden deliberately under-promised so that he could over-succeed.
Pathetic!
One of the things I noted? President Biden did not take McConnell's bait on the filibuster question, the threat to bring the Senate to a standstill. Instead of ranting over (or even mentioning) McConnell's extortionist posture, Biden raised the ante, said quite specifically he's considering filibuster 'reform'.
In any case, good piece. Keep 'em rocking on their heels, Joe!

(11,535 posts)"Stay the course." Staying above the fray is going to do one of two things....and maybe both, if one doesn't consider the right as a monolith, but an associated coalition of more or less independent actors.
A - They will eventually figure out - or just sense with feral cunning - that this tack is failing, and give it up. Gradually, though. The ridiculous barbs will become fewer and weaker...although they could get way more outrageous as semi-coherent strategies fail.
Or, 3 - They will regroup momentarily, and launch one or more salvos that are so ridiculous that only the most rabid followers will continue to stay in line.
Either way, it looks like a W to me. (and I don't mean Younger Bush)

(3,467 posts)It is amazing how well that works.
Even the regular media (non-right wing) is trying as hard as they can to get him on something.
I read something on CNN the other day where they took his sentence:
"60% of all these tax breaks go -- all these tax breaks go to the bottom 60% of the population."
and tried to spin it as him saying "all these tax breaks go to the bottom 60% of the population." and calling it untrue.
Though they included the entire quote and noted that it was actually 67% of the tax breaks that go to that population - even better than what Biden had stated.

An absolutely delicious read. I had to come back for seconds. Keep it up, President Biden! Dont listen to the braying and the whining. Sounds like you understand its not worth wasting even a single nanosecond of your time. Youve got better things to do, and were all thrilled that youre focusing on THAT instead.

(42,678 posts)Joe's thought it all through and understands it all on a deep level. And he has, historically and especially now, surrounded himself with hand-picked experts. There are no surprises to them. I'd bet there's even a team that posits countermoves to actual moves, in the event.
