This is how it should work!

I had my annual Medicare wellness check today. Different doctor than usual, since my primary care physician is off playing golf somewhere. So, the stand-in decided to do a manual prostate exam. No big deal, really.

I got home and discovered that my cell phone wasn't in my pants pocket. There was only one place it could be. So, I drove back to the clinic, walked in the door with my mask on, and went up to the check-in counter. The person there spoke before I said a word, "George...I have something for you" and handed me my phone.

Now, I only go to that clinic once a year, but she remembered me from when I checked in. She said, "We tried to call you, but, well, the number we have is for your cell phone."

A good result, but it's one more reason my banking app is not on that phone.

Nice of them to return something that they'd have no use for. Towlie Apr 2021 #1

Of course they'd return it. What was more interesting was that the check-in person remembered me on sight from when I checked in this morning.

It's a big multi-specialty clinic with a full parking lot. Lots of people came in this morning.

That kind of personal connection is why I chose that particular clinic. My primary care doctor, who I have seen once a year for 15 years, remembers things about me that aren't in my chart.

That was my point.

As soon as I noticed it was gone, I knew right where it was. A guy pulls down his pants on the exam table, rolls over on his side, gets an internal poke, and pulls his pants back up. Well, a back pocket in a pair of jeans is no place for a cell phone in that circumstance.

Normally, I keep my phone in the right pocket of my shirt, but I wore a T-shirt to the doctor's office, because I knew I'd get a blood draw and didn't want to have to take off my regular shirt. In an excess of courtesy to the doctor, I put the phone on airplane mode so it wouldn't ring when the "extended warranty" scammer called me for the first time today. Silly me. I should have left the phone at home.

Next year, I'll leave the phone on my desk.
