I felt nothing when it was inserted in my arm. Later, I would pick up the band-aid to confirm that the needle even pierced the skin, and, yes it did.
I would kick myself when I was sitting in the waiting room, wishing I had taken a closer look at the needle when it was discarded on the table, to make sure it was empty. But, I guess I just have to wait for side effects to confirm it.
The first time I felt severe pain at the site of the injection around ten in the evening. So I should feel at least that much tonight.
BTW, you know those right-wing friends that try to pretend they're neutral on political issues? Well, I have two that exposed their true political affiliations because they're not even trying to get vaccinated. The other friends that generally defend them, are finally questioning them based on their judgment over the vaccines.
UPDATE: 10 pm, right on time, my arm is killing me! Hurray! I got the shot!!!

(149,296 posts)The fact that you didn't feel it means the person giving you the injection knew their stuff!

Next day her arm was sore.
I laughed.

Hey, good luck! I had little to no reaction from my 2nd Pfizer.

(442 posts)I've never heard anyone "worry" about not "really getting" the shot. I needed that chuckle.
Just found out my DIL tested positive. We've been trying to get her and my son in for their 1st dose, without any luck. Was just talking to my kid on Sunday giving him some other options...and then...she gets sick. Really sick. Plus side, she's super healthy so I'm hoping she recovers quickly.
I'm terrified and helpless. Thank you for getting vaccinated.

(64,413 posts)Barely felt anything either time.
The needle is EXTREMELY thin here in Illinois. They're using a 32 gauge.
Most states are using 23 to 28, and they look like 1" needles.
Somebody really good at giving injections should be able to do it without causing pain.
I'm not surprised I felt almost nothing, and I'm quite certain the syringe was full, because I don't look away during a shot.

(46,570 posts)I'm now poking the site of the shot to feel anything. And it's so minimal.
ProfessorGAC
(64,413 posts)Even if they used a 25 gauge needle, the outer diameter is around a half millimeter.
It's far from impossible that a tiny needle, going one inch in, could not hit any nerves in the skin. The persons fingers on your arm would be more sensation than the shot.
Then, if you're looking for it, the actual puncture not covered by the skin tissue regathering is more the size of the point of the needle. Maybe as little as 100 microns, or about 2/3rds bigger than one strand of hair.
Given it's that small, seeing puncture mark might be really tough.
You can be confident you got the shot you went there for.

(46,570 posts)What could they possibly do with a Pfizer shot? They would have to use it up in a few hours.
Of course, I would feel more confident if I hadn't seen her get up soon after I left the room. I was waiting for my husband to come out so we could go out to wait the 15 minutes together. She either went to the bathroom, or probably went to get more shots.

(13,392 posts)You never hear them say that, then say, "but I wear the mask and will get vaccinated just in case, it can't hurt anything."
If the former guy was making it the hateriotic thing to do, it'd be a hell of a lot harder for us to get in quickly. I'm in the Idaho capitol for anti-maskers here. I got right through the first time I tried, then they fired me up with Pfizer three days later.

(19,905 posts)drive 180 miles to get it. I'm on the end of day wait list for the Pfizer vaccine, unfortunately on Saturday as well, and that's only 2 miles away. So unless I get a better indication of the Pfizer chances, I will have to go for the AZ one. And that would mean driving back up a few weeks later again.
