'Splain this to me, ok?

We are ok with our kids being required to be vaccinated in order to enroll in school. We accept being told where we can smoke, how fast we can drive and on which side of the highway. We are willing to pee in a cup to prove to our employer we are drug-free and wear a net over our hair or beard if we work with food. BUT,----

----somehow, being required to wear a mask or get a free vaccination in order to protect ourselves, our families, neighbors and co-workers is an outrageous infringement of our personal rights?

I'll wait.

1. Can't explain it other than to say that logic and reason is an increasingly rarified American trait

I submit as evidence to this that, given everything in prior 4 years of insane governance , still some 47% of the voting public voted for Trump and the Dem majorities in the Congress are razor thin.

Amazing too is even if wearing a mask or getting a vaccine affects your sense of "freedom" and individual rights, you might still be strongly behind the idea of getting beyond the disruption and economic impacts the pandemic ongoing brings. But apparently not for many. All sad to say.

5. Are helmets "required" for riding bicycles?

If so, that is news to me.
I guess I should be dead, because I rode bikes ALL my juvenile life without a helmet.

I really don't know. It is up to the states. As are seatbelt laws. The federal government requires
them in cars, but the individual states require you to put them on..

7. And universal health insurance is "socialism"?

Well, excuse me! Why don't they call car insurance "socialism", or property insurance "socialism"?

Why don't Americans understand insurance???? When everyone contributes, individual costs go down (WAY down).

Because Corporations ARE SO AWESOME!!!!!!11!!! and if you don't like it, just go get a job somewhere else you lazy, drug addict.

But if the government wants you to do something, well FUCK YOU LIBERALZ! From my cold, dead hands!

Seriously though:
Your country has a hard-on for corporations and CEOs where you bow down to them like gods.
You should look into that.
It's not great.

if he had worn a mask from day 1 I suspect all the Maga followers would wear one too. I really think it started with trump saying he doesn't see himself wearing a mask.

to be forced to take a test and prove you know the basics of driving in order to obtain a driver’s license. Isn’t it my gawd given right to drive where I want, when I want and any way I want without having to prove anything to anybody in authority?? Including having a little plastic card (driving passport???) in my wallet.

And what about my car registration?? Who sez I gotta prove my car is registered in my state of residence?? Not me.

17. Oppositional defiance disorder?
Sun Apr 11, 2021, 12:18 PM
Apr 2021

With some cognitive dissonance thrown in.

Don't tell me what to do!

If you tell me what to do I'll (mostly) do the opposite.

Mostly kids and adolescents are diagnosed with this (ODD). But there are many adults who never got diagnosed and display this behavior. This popped into my head when I read your post.

I have several friends who "refuse" to get the vaccine "yet." One had covid early 2020 and has had severe complications, so she now has autoimmune conditions which may cause a reaction to the vaccine. Another does have ODD. He's a veteran in his 30's with a case worker, lives near the VA, and leans right or libertarian like many military, wears a mask when required but complains. I'm hopeful he will be convinced to get one now that doses are more available. Another friend displays some symptoms of ODD, but she is on disability for a mental condition that is certainly affecting her decision making in this area. She is fine continuing to wear a mask.

My brother, who has serious medical issues, was told by his MD to only get the J & J, which he finally got last week. I wanted to get that one too but didn't want to wait or jump through hoops, so I scheduled and got the first available which was Pfizer.

I do feel a bit controlled by not being allowed to decide which vaccine, and by being told when to return for my 2nd dose. I don't have ODD, but if I did I might have left the clinic without getting the vaccine... because when I arrived for my first dose they told me if I couldn't return on a certain date for the 2nd dose I'd have to reschedule the first. I'm still pissed off about that.

There are a lot of selfish, warped individuals out there who refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated. I bet a good number of them have ODD. Or they're just crazy and deluded.
