Usually, the sentences run concurrently (at the same time) so essentially he serves the longest sentnce. But the Judge CAN rule to serve consecutively. That's kinda rare though.

Surprised there’ve been no rape “jokes”.

Why would you hope he ends up in General Population? What did you mean by "they'll love him there"?

If I'm not mistaken, Chauvin elected to have the judge to hear pleas, whatever, for sentencing.

the judge decides to depart from the score derived by the pre-sentence investigation, up to the maximum for the charge(s) for which he's convicted.

That only the top charge goes towards sentencing. Therefore, if he gets convicted of all 3 charges, the bottom two would fall off and the top charge will be used for sentencing. I'm no lawyer, I'm just repeating almost verbatim what was said.

Prosecution didn't want Murder 3 and Manslaughter as the only counts, there was a possibility that the jury could neogtiate to agree on the lesser count.

With 3 charges, the jury can negotiate to drop the 2 and agree on the 3.

Good strategy by the prosecution.
