fully vaccinated.

From the Chicago Tribune April 9th:

No vaccine is perfect, and that’s true of these three. In Illinois as of Wednesday, 581 fully vaccinated people had tested positive for the virus more than two weeks after their last dose, resulting in 21 hospitalizations and 12 deaths, according to the state health department.

While tragic, the fatalities statistically are rare, compared with the 2.5 million people fully vaccinated in the state.

I think if we want people to take the vaccine they need to know the truth. Far far less people die from covid after vaccination. But, saying it NEVER happens is just misinformation that could very well breed mistrust with whom you are sharing this untrue data.

from the virus is really quite irrelevant to the message the video is trying to convey i.e. take the vaccination that is available to you - don't wait for something you may think is better in some way.

It is as misleading as the information it is trying to counter.

There are valid reasons for making the choice to get J&J. BUT pretending they are equally effective is not one of them.

the fact that some people do get hospitalized and some do die should not be omitted. People get careless when they think they are 100% safe.

Earlier tonight I was in line for the register at a local store when a couple came up behind me leaving only about 2 feet at most between us. The man's mask was below his nose. There were more than 6 feet between the customer ahead of me and me due to the store layout and policy of stopping far back from the register. So I moved forward. So did the couple behind me. I asked them to back up and the guy said it was ok because he was vaccinated. I said I was too, but vaccines are not 100% effective.

Then I said to him that he was not even wearing a mask. He did not argue. He knew that exposing his nose made a mask useless. He just said, "So what?" I said, "So you haven't heard that vaccines are less effective on the mutations? You haven't heard that seniors are more likely to have breakthrough infections than other people?"

They were both gray haired seniors. His wife's eyes looked concerned above her mask. They backed up and did not say anything else.

They were well meaning but overconfident.

Although I have other issues with the video - I think it is accurate as to what the vaccine does. Even the initial slides when they explain how efficacy is determined - indicates that some people still get the disease. If you still get the disease, it can be deadly.

First - they are doing the same thing they say is bad - looking at data at different times. They treat the Pfizer/Moderna vaccines as if data stopped being gathered as of the date the trials ended. There have been at least 3 trials since then which demonstrate that the efficacy holds - not only as to severe infections, but also as to variants

Second - the GOAL is always to prevent infection. As a stop-gap measure, all vaccines were tested as to defanging (preventing severe symptoms and death). Now that they are in the market and being used, they are proving effective at the primary goal as well: preventing infection (which will achieve the ultimate goal of creating herd immunity sufficient to protect those who cannot be vaccinated),

Third - more minor - they described the efficacy as preventing disease. That is the best measure of efficacy - but NOT what any of the trials preeding emergency authorization tested. Those trials tested solely the prevention of symptomatic disease - the distinction between being effective or not was symptoms + positive covid test. Later trials (the ones ignored by this video) have tested prevention of disease by actively testing those who received the vaccine for COVID 19 (even those who did not have symptoms).
