A law enforcement training seminar in Michigan has been canceled following concerns about comments a former Army ranger, scheduled to speak, had made about fatal police shootings.
Lt. Col. (ret) Dave Grossman, 64, was scheduled to be one of the keynote speakers at the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP) event due to take place at the Oak Pointe Church in Novi, northwest of Detroit on May 26 and 27.
In his biography on his website, Grossman is described as the director of the Killology Research Group. It describes killology as the study of "the reactions of healthy people in killing circumstances," such as police and military in combat "and the factors that enable and restrain killing in these situations."
But videos of comments he had made previously have circulated online, raising alarm. In a video that recently went viral, Grossman tells a class that police have "the best sex" after shooting a "bad guy."

(64,413 posts)Half are dems, the other half Rs.
But, that half is all-in on free market, low taxes, fiscal conservatism, blah, blah, blah.
But, even though they're completely wrong about the economics, none are sociopaths.
Zero out of 31 (counting me).
This goes way beyond broad brush accusation.

(9,874 posts)I see nothing similar to police training. A huge part of our police problem is the militarization and the inclusion of so many ex-military as police. Its my opinion that being ex-military should preclude becoming a police officer. The two groups have two very different purposes, but the police have now adopted the military mindset that everyone you encounter who is not one of you is an enemy and you shoot to kill. Police should receive no military training because a part of that training is to desensitize people to killing.

"Why do liberals hate police?"
Police have a difficult job and sometimes (should be very rare) they are in situation where they are in mortal danger and may have to use lethal force to end a threat and protect themselves and their co-workers.
That should be difficult. It should be an excruciating decision that comes at the end of exhausting all other options (though obviously there are times when it is a matter of split seconds).
It should also hurt. Taking another human life is not natural or normal. Not saying that they should carry guilt or shame with them all their lives. Some killing is justified. If someone was threatening my wife or children with harm, I would do my best to end that threat, even if it meant killing the attacker. I would imagine that I would feel the trauma, but hope that a sense of justification and my obligation as a husband and father would allow me to heal from the situation. Same with police. If there were no other options, then police should be able to and allowed to heal without carrying judgement.
The problem is when you shoot an unarmed person at a traffic stop because you escalated the situation. Or you show up, don't even get out of your car, and shoot a 12 year old playing in a playground.
This jackass has been trying to train police to overcome their humanity and to see killing as good, and as part of their job. Their job is to enforce the laws. Sometimes that means apprehending dangerous people. Sometimes it means intervening in a situation where shots are fired, or someone is stabbing people, or other situation where their is a threat to life. However, police aren't "warriors". They are public servants. This mentality needs to stop, and if it means putting assholes like this out of business, then so be it.

I always thought good sex resulted from intimacy, a stimulating night on the town, good communication skills, and good foreplay.
But I'm not a cop, so what do I know?

(90,189 posts)...if my experience is any indication, events are vetted to make sure they are more or less in line with the overall ethos of the church. *
It is possible that the title of the program sounded benign enough that the entirety of the program was not comprehended.
* During the years I was on the County Affirmative Action Commission we strove to meet at the geographical midpoint whenever possible. One of our meeting places was a Methodist church, and the other was a Fire station.

(2,293 posts)I have no doubt this guy has unlawfully killed under color of law, domestic or international and even combat rules of engagement.
But what has come out of this guy's pie hole suggests a necrophiliac/murderer at worst and at best someone who kills to get an erection.
Someone needs to look up this guy's butt with a flashlight.
