1. Sounds good to me but I think it is looking

like Democrats are just going to wimp out like always.

6. It's easy to assume Democrats are "wimping out" if you don't know how any of this works.

8. It's DU - it's always easier to blame Democrats than find out how things work nt

15. Yep

Nothing likes watching a bunch of armchair quarterbacks who, based on stuff they read on the internet and heard someone say MSNBC, are certain they definitely know more and better than the Democrats in the ring responsible for making the decisions. And not only do they have superior expertise and knowledge, they're sure the Democrats are cowards and wimps because they're not doing what these people think they should on the timeline they dictate ...

13. I can't even imagine what would be happening today if

a Democrat led an insurrection to overturn an election. I am betting any Democrat that supported it would not be in office today.

14. But you don't know.

Just imagining and betting and assuming the Democrats are wimps because they're not moving according to your timeline

2. just a guess....

But a special counsel looks for violations of law with an eye towards bringing charges. The vast amounts of info they gather is never released to the public outside of any court records or final reports they may release, which in turn are heavily edited and redacted.

Congressional hearings are real time. They are intended to focus public attention and document what is known and can be verified. They are completely different processes. One if judicial, the other is political.

Somewhere in the middle is a body like the Warren Commission which attempted to find facts on the assassination of president Kennedy. We all know that that fully ended all conspiracy theories on both sides of that issue, right?

3. Makes sense. The FBI is already investigating.

4. That's already happening

DOJ is investigating, arresting and prosecuting. That's what a special counsel would do.

A Commission will have a different scope. Its job isn't to bring criminal prosecutions, but to do a broader investigation and make recommendations.

7. An investigation by the house and senate Intel committees would be enough...

It is a matter of national security. The capitol was attacked by a group recognized as one of the country’s greatest national security threats.

Release a report next spring, hold a few public hearings next summer.

9. Yip, since the wingnuts nix bi-partisan thing, just do it in Dem hearings, the way Benghazi went.

12. Exactly...

They keep talking about a 911 type investigation, why not just conduct a Benghazi type investigation, except actually pursue the people involved in wrongdoing instead of conducting a political witch-hunt.

11. This was always my initial instinct.

The only drawback related to AG as a political appointee by our guy.

So, then it occurred to me that perhaps the Washington DC, City Counsel formalize one, which would be comprised by Homeland Security, DOJ, and maybe another entity I've not thought of. Perhaps Constitutional Scholars from all of the major Law universities.

No Federalists or Heritage foundation people need apply.
