...A few US Congressmen were proven to be connected to the "Capital Coup"?
Can Congressmen be charged with crimes? Some would argue immunity, so long as they are in the Congress?
It would present a difficult situation.
But, just as Congressmen have free speech to say whatever they wish to say, without threat or censorship, so too, do we common citizenry.
Should Merrick Garland and the DOJ investigate those Congressmen? What were they thinking and what was their intent?
(But I am pretty sure they are on top of it)

(18,087 posts)The question is whether or not this DOJ has the courage to go after sitting Senators and Representatives. They may not want to look like they're being partisan.

(110,950 posts)The AG (Merrick Garland) would be the victim of a brutal verbal attack if he charged a sitting Senator or Congressman, there is little doubt.
But he is the top Lawman in the country. He has the authority to investigate whether or not a few Congresspeople were in cahoots with the mob that stormed our Capitol, I would think? If they were aware of the conspiracy, then they are complicit.
Does this DOJ have the courage to investigate it?
I think they should give it serious thought.

(18,087 posts)Do a thorough, nonpartisan investigation, and then don't be afraid to prosecute anyone found to be guilty of any crimes.

A Rep talking to a insurrectionist constituent the day before is not going to cut it.
But, Emails about strategy and access to the Capitol is basically treason.
That would be very serious stuff.

(16,254 posts)the Republicans may need a lot more candidates to find if they expect to take over the House and the Senate. That is probably a good chunk of worry for McConnell. They can't afford to lose any. But, then, look at the recent candidates. Looks like they are scraping the bottom of that apple barrel.
