(64,852 posts)I've never heard of him, but he's got over a million & a quarter subscribers and his show has been viewed a goal of 900 million views.
Apparently, he's got a following, but I don't know that he has a mainstream reputation for insight or accuracy.
From Wikipedia:
Total views: 900 million
Subscribers: 1.32 million
Education: Bentley University, Northampton High School, University of Massachusetts Amherst
I'm not sure I need to care about his opinion, because most knew who Manchin was & what he was like.
Pakman's prognostication isn't exactly unique.

(5,376 posts)Unfortunately, that is true.
But, David makes a clear presentation of the problem Manchin is posing to President Biden's agenda.
Especially in regards to voting rights, where Democrats are trying to protect them and the Republicans to curtail them, yet Manchin calls for a bipartisan compromise that apparently, in the light of the recent senate vote, is never going to happen.

(64,852 posts)We've known all along that Manchin was a guy who thought the Senate was to be a brake on legislation, as if this were 1830.
Nothing he's doing needs to explained as none of it is a surprise.
But, this guy has lots of viewers, so somebody thinks highly of him.

(5,376 posts)Does that "we" include everyone on DU? Everyone viewing political channels on Youtube?
Different political commentators reach different audiences and David Pakman is a strong advocate for Democrats and our Democratic agenda, so, what the heck, god bless him for getting the word out.

(64,852 posts)I do believe the vast majority here knew what he was like.
As to "getting the word out", you're right. I did mention that he has people who do pay attention. That's good.
But, I'm not so skeptical about the political awareness of DUers.

(5,376 posts)His take on how Manchin was affecting the passage of voting rights legislation was particularly well made, in my opinion.
Yes, in general, many DU-ers understand the challenge Manchin presents to pushing forward President Biden's agenda. But discussing how Manchin is impacting a particular piece of legislation is also worth presenting and discussing, as David Pakman did in his video.
And, it's certainly not a matter of being, as you put it, "skeptical about the political awareness of DUers", rather, in my opinion, it was about presenting a viewpoint on current legislation for discussiion here on DU.
Hey, I get it, everyone has there own opinion of any given pundit. And some responders have chosen to comment on the pundit instead of the content of his clip.
But it would have been nice to have had a discussion on the points he raised. Personally, I don't think as Democrats we can afford to "compromise" more on voting rights. Especially in light of the concerted effort nationwide by Republicans to depress minority voting.
Thanks for the discussion. Enjoy the rest of your day.

(25,380 posts)conspiracy theory bullshit became fashionable and he mindlessly climbed right aboard. Democrats are corporatist neoliberal corrupt demons and Hillary "Satan" Clinton their leader in Wall Street Hell.
In the last couple of years that sort of bullshit hasn't been so popular so he's eased up. David seems like a nice boy and sometimes his show is fine, but I can't forgive him or anyone else who told their audiences lies about Democrats that encouraged cynicism, apathy, ignorance, misplaced anger. I don't know how some people sleep at night.

(955 posts)knew this would be the case. It's why I hoped Democrats would get 52-53 seats last election, so people like Manchin and Sinema would have way less power.

Generally he is pretty right on and presents some good video clips. I fast forward a bit.
