The 22.5 year prison sentence for George Floyd's murderer is a victory. IMO

When viewed in the context of what usually happens in these cases, this is a huge victory.

I fully understand why George Floyd's family, Al Sharpton and the family attorneys are somewhat disappointed. It's very personal for them, and it is true--there are HUGE double standards in the way black defendants are sentenced versus white defendants. However, for my own mental sanity, I have to view things in a more positive light today. I think a 22.5 year prison sentence for a white cop sends a strong message to corrupt, violent/abusive and/or racist cops. All we need now is consistency--every bad cop must be held accountable for their crimes. The next step is to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act!

Yep ó donít get caught.

Thatís a very low bar that we havenít hit after decades of reform, and the Justice in Policing Act will be yet another ďreformĒ that brings very little change.

2. It's certainly enough to get police looking over their shoulders, and that's

one big thing we want to take away from this. Nobody wants to do 15 years or 22.5 years. Whether or not it's long enough for the crime, it's long enough that Chauvin is fucked, and other brutal officers like him are getting something to think about. That in itself could prove to be a victory many times over.

3. It is marginal.

No one wins. George Floyd can not come back. The family can maybe get some small sense of justice.

It is not a light sentence but is meaningless unless more cops are jailed for similar acts. To the point police stop it.
