Alvin Bragg, a former white-collar crime prosecutor with a progressive track record, is set to become Manhattans first Black district attorney, putting him in line to take over the investigation and criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trumps family business.
Braggs victory became an all but certain fact Friday, when Tali Farhadian Weinstein, his main rival, conceded the Democratic primary race to replace outgoing Manhattan DA Cy Vance, Jr.
Although Bragg, 47, must still square off against a Republican challenger in Novembers general contest, given Manhattans overwhelming Democratic demographic, hes expected to win by a landslide.
Farhadian Weinstein, a former federal prosecutor who poured $8.3 million of her own cash into the DA race, trailed Bragg by about 3% of the vote and had hoped outstanding absentee ballots cast in the June 22 primary would push her over the edge. But Braggs lead remained intact as absentees began to roll in, and Farhadian Weinstein said she called him Friday to congratulate him on his historic election.
