Leonnig and Rucker report that Milley spoke to an old friend, who warned the general that Trump and his allies were trying to overturn the government in response to Joe Bidens election victory, which Trump falsely maintains was the result of electoral fraud.
Milley is reported to have said: They may try, but theyre not going to fucking succeed. You cant do this without the military. You cant do this without the CIA and the FBI. Were the guys with guns.
Reportedly calling Trump supporters Brownshirts, a reference to paramilitaries who served Hitler in Germany in the 1930s, Milley is reported to have believed long before the Capitol attack that Trump was stoking unrest, possibly in hopes of an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act and call out the military.

What Milley apparently said to Michelle Obama on President Biden's inauguration day: No one has a bigger smile today than I do, Milley reportedly said. You cant see it under my mask but I do.

(82,849 posts)All these reporters just sat on these juicy stories in real time, but now they've assembled them into books and they're trying to turn a buck on their way-after-the-fact breathless revelations. In real time, the former guy's lunacy was winked at, and news outlets turned themselves into logical pretzels trying to explain that the crazy thing you thought you heard Trump say wasn't all that crazy because reasons.
Now that the motherfucker has been exiled from the White House, and everyone feels safe (more or less), it's time for the skeletons to come clattering out of the closets to tell us all just how unbalanced the former guy was and is. Oh, and to make a few bucks for the authors so they can go on the teevee shows.

Sitting on this is just as bad as sitting on the story of MF45's awareness about Covid's severity.

(14,955 posts)Some may have decided to put a historical perspective on their writing. Something that hasn't been possible while the shit-hole has been spewing live on social media.
I'll blame close confidants of the orange anus who haven't published blogs while the inanities were actually happening. Scaramucci(sp?) and others sorta tried. Michael Cohen has. I'd love to hear Hopeful Hick's reminisces about crouching under Resolute, or perhaps (gen)Michael FLying's accounts of his real conversations with Putin/aides/rouble-carriers.
The more that comes out and actually makes it into the real history books, the better. The more prosecutions and penalties, the best!
