(53,477 posts)As far as the Cleveland baseball team, the term "that's my tribe", has been used by fans for years as an affection term for their team.
Celerity
(42,675 posts)growing up, unfortunately. Jews themselves used it in a sort of self-mocking, in-group way (MOT aka member of the Tribe), but then anti-Semites took it and ran with it

(53,477 posts)I didn't think it was as a long-time fan. The term "that's my tribe", used by fans for years, I thought was an affection term for the team by fans like myself.

(53,477 posts)I do defer to Native Americans if they consider "tribe" offensive.

(35,151 posts)this little black book around. Every once in while he would take it out and write in it. One day someone said Tony what are you writing in there all the time? He said whenever someone insults me or pisses me off for some reason I write it down so I didnt forget. The other guy said how important could it have been if you have to write it down to remember it? It's to the point we have Google every word before we use it to see if may offend someone.

(22,153 posts)It really isn't.
I'm also not really seeing the connection between your anecdote and making a basic human effort to not use oppressive language about historically marginalized people.

(15,505 posts)They'll always be the Indians to me. In elementary school if you had a straight A average in every course at the end of the year you would get seven pair of general admission seats at Memorial Stadium. I was a good student so I spent a lot of my summers cheering them on.

(35,151 posts)What do they want to be called I don't know?
I don't see why calling a team Indians is wrong unless they don't like the word. Like the guy in the video I think if you name a team for them it would be an honor. The state of Ohio comes from an Iraquios word should we change that. What about all the lakes, streets and cities with Indian names is that offensive. All this political correctness makes Democrats look foolish IMO. I was a steelworker for 40 years it offends me to call the Pittsburgh football team (Steelers). Those guys never set foot in a steel mill.
We had some Jesus freaks a few years ago that claimed the high school team Red Devils was devil worship.
