Colleges- The Secret Vaccine Mandate?

Owing to a little debate I was having on another thread I am beginning to check out whether colleges and universities are requiring returning students to be vaccinated for the fall. I started with my own Little Ivy League school and then it's two almost as good rivals. Then some of the state universities in New England. Now I'm onto the Big Ten. They all seem to be mandating. It can be done!

But they have stated that the nonvaccinated kids are all going to have to jump through the same hoops as last year for testing, masks, and isolation.

I assume many will just get vaccinated just to avoid the hassle.

Not absolutely required for employees, but if you can't show your card: masks and weekly testing.

You've got two options as a campus - require vaccinations for all students, faculty, and staff and return to some semblance of normal in the fall, or do not require them, and remain subject to restrictions determined by the department of health.

The University of Washington, as well as most of the smaller colleges that I'm aware of in the Seattle area are all requiring vaccination.

Public university in Ohio.

I face 120 little darlings for 24 hours in just shy of two weeks (spread over a week an a half in 6-hour chunks). No mandate. Masks are on the honor system.

I had planned to remove my mask for the time I was actually teaching (back when we were around 14 cases/100,000) in my county.

But we're backup to 33+ cases/100,000 - and will almost certainly be over 50 cases/100,000 by the day classes start. So I think that plan is dead - which is sad. When when I surveyed last year nearly half indicated it was extremely important or helpful to see my lips in order to fully understand what I was saying. I'm willing to take a moderate risk to accommodate this need, but not when our cases are over 50/100,000 - and we're barely over 50% vaccinated.

Running a vaccine scholarship lottery. You have a shot at winning a scholarship if you can show you're vaccinated.
I guess it's mandated where you would expect. Not mandated where you would expect.
And oh, Indiana is requiring vaccines. Already won a law suit over it.
That one's a surprise.

Rutgers... all students

Hamilton... must be vaccinated unless they have an approved religious or health exemption; vaccine is strongly recommended for employees who must report their status

Stony Brook...all resident students

Is requiring all students and staff to be fully vaccinated, including all international students (which is about 22% of the student body). My child is an incoming freshman and we have been getting constant reminders.

And those who aren't vaccinated have to wear masks. Not sure how that will work. I'm checking the places where I think there might be a shot.

…both our sons attended when I got an e-mail from them saying that COVID vaccination was going to be required for faculty, staff and students. Yay for Carthage College in Kenosha WI.

Not so fast. As I read further into the email, it turns out that is “required” with 3 exceptions: medical, religious or personal convictions.

Not exactly a “requirement” if there are 3 ways out of it.
* true medical exemptions are pretty damn rare
*religious exemptions are mostly BS - most religions say nothing about this
*personal convictions - “I just don’t wanna”

Maybe they will firm up the requirement once the vaccines are out of the EUA status.
