(6,017 posts)The Republican Party asked for their voters' unquestioning loyalty and in return promised their base they could be as unaccountable as Trump. Racism, sexism, ableism - you name it, they've been allowed to just let it all out and feel that power.
Except now the Devil is calling in his debts on the deal they made.

(21,786 posts)that sounds unpleasant. I am lucky enough to be immune to norovirus, but not having had a cold or even sniffles from anything more serious than allergies for almost a year and a half has been nice.

(54,990 posts)Masks won't be of much help....
Noroviruses hang out everywhere.
Kali
(54,990 posts)but clean hands will protect more than a mask for that particular virus.
Calculating
(2,954 posts)Idk how good they would be at stopping stomach flu.
roamer65
(36,739 posts)Only 10-15 noroviruses can cause gastroenteritis.
Is a mask perfect? No, but it does reduce the chances of getting it.
If you breath it in, then eat or drink and take it into your stomach...blammo.
Calculating
(2,954 posts)You'd only be exposed to airborne norovirus if you were around someone throwing up or something. It's not like covid where it's spread by our breath.
roamer65
(36,739 posts)Its not SARS, but it can be transmitted through ventilation systems when aerosolized via vomiting.
So hand washing and masks help not to catch it.
Crunchy Frog
(26,548 posts)or by touching contaminated surfaces and then getting it into your mouth one way or another.
Masking won't do anything to prevent it, but it seems likely that overall greater attention to hygiene and sanitizing surfaces along with less eating out would reduce transmission.
But your mask won't protect you from it. Not that there aren't plenty of other good reasons to wear a mask.
roamer65
(36,739 posts)That coupled with regular hand washing is what worked for me.
Norovirus does aerosolize from vomiting and spreads.

(28,094 posts)Got chewed up in the lounge a few weeks ago for stating that I'll continue to wear my masks post-vaccination because of many factors, mainly due to what I'd read re: variants.
I was told that I was just "virtue signaling" and that it wasn't science and that masks had become "a comfort object." I have at least 3 comorbidities, so I wasn't happy. Hope they're eating their words now.
No here.

So I coughed at my eye doctor's office and everyone stared, horrified. The receptionist asked, "Are you ok? Feeling sick?"
"Just allergies," I said. She relaxed.

I got over worrying about people looking at me in middle school.
Thats kind of a sad thing. Why do you look at others to see their reaction to you? Perhaps theyre wondering why youre staring?

(4,170 posts)These stories are weird.
I spend a lot of my life in a small red town. NO ONE has ever said a word to me about wearing a mask. If anyone has looked at me askance, I have to admit I wouldnt even know it because I simply dont pay attention to people except to say hello or smile. People always say the same back, even when Im wearing a mask,
I do feel bad for all of you who seem to live in such horrid, judgemental, and in-your-business type places. Yikes.

Treefrog
(4,170 posts)Who cares?
Do people really walk into stores watching to see others reaction to them? Seriously?
Im looking at my list usually, and also trying to stop my impulsive self from silly purchases. Why in the world would an grown person give one shit about what some rando in a store is thinking about them?
What a scary way to live.

(2,013 posts)I still avoid crowds like the plague (literally), and I look at all these people who are going maskless and carrying on like the pandemic is over and I just wonder, do they NOT watch the news? Delta variant ring a bell, anyone?! Covid deaths rising, hospitals filling up with people dying of Covid, did they catch that recent bit of information?!
And they look at me, too, but I just ignore them. Some day, sadly, they will wish they had worn a mask and had taken Covid seriously.

(28,702 posts)So far I am not the only one. I've seen people look at me but I don't try to read their minds. I look at them as well wondering why the fuck they're so selfish and careless about public health. I wonder mostly whether they're vaccinated and whether they're shedding the delta variant as we pass each other by.
where do you live? I'm in Durham NC and definitely not the only person around who has made the decision to continue wearing a mask in public. I don't expect to stop doing so, probably until I die. Thanks to covidiots COVID's not done with us, and there's no guarantee that another bug won't be coming down the pike.

(9,963 posts)any stores or other public buildings. Our public transit and most businesses still require masks if you enter. I have no problem and feel much safer that way. I have never worn it outdoors, unless I am in a crowd but I have no problems to continue wearing one. I have noticed that it is about 50/50 in grocery stores but all employees still wear masks.

(5,206 posts)last March 15th and we never stopped wearing our masks in stores. My daughter in Florida said she started double masking last week based on the high virus numbers in all states and, especially, Florida. This will not end until the virus kills every last anti-vaxxer out there.

(90,195 posts)We went out to a brunch buffet on Sunday with some former neighbors. It was grand to be out and about, despite the suspicion we were going to be enduring social isolation again. All the servers wore masks. None of the patrons did after all, we were eating.
Then the next day the bad news about Delta COVID became more urgent and really sank in. This just is so far from being over.
Masks, hand sanitizer, and all that are going to be part of our lives for a long time to come, I think.
