We keep hearing over and over how Facebook is a major source of misinformation and promotion of Trump lies.
Could Zuckerberg be trying to keep Trump support going in spite of the restrictions that are supposed to suppress it?

(54,291 posts)To be a Trumpanzee, you have be stupid or evil or both. Zuckerberg just strikes me as a brainy nerd who lucked out, but maybe hes just skillful at concealing his true motives, whatever they might be?

I wish them both massive amounts of Karma cause then have both earned it

(19,186 posts)I still have a Facebook account, but will never log in again. I'm relatively certain the vast majority of those critical of Zuckerberg's cash cow are like myself.
It doesn't take a genius to see how Facebook directs people to like minded material, even if that material is false and malicious.

(25,126 posts)I get directed to stupid ads and stupid memes, like, "What doesn't belong on hamburgers?"
I'm active with the Democratic Party on Facebook. We plan most of our activities on Facebook. It's how all of the Democratic Party does it.

(16,829 posts)And that is not a good thing.
Lots of people don't have Facebook accounts and don't want them.
If I come across an organization that doesn't give me a choice for signing up other than Facebook, I don't sign up.

(25,126 posts)FB tends to get instant participation. On FB all you have to do is click "going" and you get reminders and it's in your event list. Mobilize sends text and email reminders.

(9,038 posts)It was kind of intended as a Neighborhood Watch thing. Now it's a showcase letting me know how many of my neighbors are lunatics.
It is very good at Neighborhood Watching, though. Too good. As in, "Anyone looking vaguely out of place will be posted with extensive Ring footage."

(25,126 posts)At least when it comes to crime watch Me We is more private, but sometimes that can be a bad thing, because the crime watchers can get away with saying more racist s____, but on Nextdoor you have also have the stray rescue people who keep it a bit more balanced.

(25,126 posts)I head over there when I wanna sell or buy something or something benign, but it's full of RW trolls.
They have gotten better about "black people in the neighborhood" after George Floyd. But, it's still fair game. And they're constant doxxing license plates. It's pretty much a cesspool.
I try to find something good in the mess, but it's hard and it's certainly not worth the time. A few months ago there was actually a civil discussion about what was gonna be at a former Sonic Drive-In. Everyone's hoping it's gonna be an upgrade like Panera. I took the position that Sonic went out of business because no one could get in and out of the location easily due to the way traffic moved at the spot. I think it's gonna be another pawn shop, tire shop, car lot (we are getting small used car lots on that road ) or some other downgrade.

There was even a post about not bringing them food because it just encourages them to stay. Theyre not feral cats, people!!!

(52,116 posts)I think it's no coincidence, you almost have to be sociopathic to steer that much money into your own pockets in the first place. Non-sociopaths have a harder time stomping on others or not sharing with others, and so wind up with less money.
That logic doesn't apply to those who inherited great wealth, but then there may be an inherited nature and/or nurture component to sociopathy.
So I don't think zuck has any particular loyalty to Donnie, but he did see financial benefit in helping him, so that's what he did.

(58,785 posts)enormous technology-driven explosions of wealth over the past 50 years. A lot of them weren't even primarily motivated, or in some cases at all, by greed for great wealth.
Although we use terms like "sociopath" and "psychopath," psychologists use other terminology, like "antisocial" as in antisocial personality disorder. tRump's in that catchbag.

(102,120 posts)My Gawd was he a naive' nerdy figure. I determined early on that I had issues with FB and thus have never registered an account, but I guess I was oblivious to HIM back then. He had that effect that for all the world made one wonder how he could tie his own shoes.
So, maybe he is just a clueless nerd who now actually NEEDS the common sense and some defined emotional intellect that he clearly lacks. Or, maybe he really is just a greedy sociopath--like Trump. I don't know. I do know that FB is obscenely harmful to a wide swath of the world at large and should never have been allowed to escape the provisions of FCC regulators.

(58,598 posts)because they think that party will help them protect their wealth. By and large they are right in that belief, and trump is repub enough to work for them. Many people don't vote on 'character' if that character sounds like it threatens their bottom line. Trump is an asshole, but he doesn't threaten wealthy people and their money.

Hes an apolitical, amoral animal who is happy to play whatever side benefits him.
Which is why he frequently gets the ire of liberals and conservatives alike.

My cousin is ok on social issues.
They are the type that would pinch their noses and vote for Trump, don't like him but he gets them what they want, just like the right wing Christians, they know he is as far from godly as possible but gets them the votes against abortion they want.
Mark is like that, when I saw the pics of him smiling with Trump and spending time alone with him, I knew he was finding a way to help him out as much as he could get away with.
