Worker Shortages / Desperate Immigrants

How are we so short of workers while there are so many people trying to get to the US to start over? I'm sure most of the people from Central America, Haiti, wherever would be more than willing to take vaccines & wear masks if it meant they could get good-paying jobs to help their families escape desperate circumstances. We really should create a "pathway to citizenship" for people willing to contribute and be good citizens. I don't get it.

"More nuanced and responsive policy around employment-based immigration could be one way to help the U.S. more quickly and more robustly bounce back from the Covid-19 [pandemic] and future economic disruptions and crises," the report said.

1. That will not be possible with a midterm coming up. And I still believe employers are resistant to

paying decent wages and will have to be forced to do so.

2. We need the labor market to stay tight to force employers to raise wages

I'd love to see the American people catch up on the wage growth they've been denied over the past 20+ years.

Wages are still near an all time low as their share of national GDP, while corporate profits are near an all time high.

Let businesses (especially large ones) suffer for a while to the people can benefit.

This will lead to businesses implementing more automation, but that is a good thing IMO. It eliminates jobs that honestly very few people really want to do. Who enjoys being a warehouse worker or a package delivery driver? Who likes taking orders at fast food joints? Now is the time to transition them to automation while labor overall is tight and the displaced workers can easily find something better (and judging by the shortages, many of them already did!)
