Absolutely insane. Queen Elizabeth at 95 to give up

Her nightly martini

No More Martinis The Queen Advised to Give Up Her Favorite Drink
BY ANWAR HUSSEIN/GETTY IMAGES.
Queen Elizabeth is known to enjoy a tipple but Her Majesty is giving up her daily alcoholic beverage at the advice of her doctors.

While she is in good physical health, the Queen, who has been seen using a cane in recent days including Thursday in Wales where she addressed the Welsh Parliament, has been advised to give up her evening martini as she prepares for one of the most important periods of her reign, Vanity Fair can report.

According to two sources close to the monarch, doctors have advised the Queen to forgo alcohol except for special occasions to ensure she is as healthy as possible for her busy autumn schedule and ahead of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations next June. “The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini,” says a family friend. “It’s not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she’s having to give up one of very few pleasures.”

10. Hmm..

This seems odd.

One martini a day is hardly over-indulgence unless she is exhibiting other symptoms or needs to be on meds that contraindicate the intake of alcohol.

As always, we are not getting the full picture. The news rarely does. They like to make sure the headlines cause more questions than answers.

No wonder the world is on-edge…..

I hope to be as fit as she is if I reach her age.

‘Course I‘ll be living a slightly less posh lifestyle!!!!

although we don't know the full reasons for the cane either -- she could have fallen at some point. Most doctors aren't going to stage an intervention on a one drink a day nonagenarian.

47. No

Haven’t you read that any amount of alcohol is not safe?

Yet another study has come out confirming it and if you don’t believe me, google it. Like cigarettes, it all-round increases your chances of various cancers.

One drink a day doesn’t seem like much, but day in and day out, it counts up.

Royal-fawning, esp. by American publications, is pathetic.

27. What's wrong with cosplay?

It's harmless if everyone knows it's cosplay.

If William Shatner thinks he's Captain Kirk riding a rocket that's a problem.

If William Shatner is an old guy grabbing the opportunity of a lifetime with great enthusiasm it's not a problem.

21. Yes she is, and I fully agree with you

But you need to understand a little about ERII and her character and sense of duty.

Her father would never have been King if her Uncle David had not abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson. Elizabeth always felt that her father should not have been thrust into this role and that it eventually shortened his life.

She vowed that her life would be dedicated to service of the country - something Uncle David did not do. Knowing these facts makes it easy to understand why she will never abdicate and will continue to serve the UK as queen as long as she can. I actually think she believes it to be her duty to live as long and as well as she can.

It's easy as an American to denigrate the Brit royals, but I was born there and understand their importance to the country. I neither love nor hate them.

19. Yeah, she should do what she wants to do.

This Queen was 92 years old and she was out riding a horse. True, the horse was being ponied, but still, wow! And, there are plenty of oldsters who say that their secret is that they have a shot of something daily.

I once knew a woman who was 103 years old. She was entitled to have and did show up for a drink every afternoon at 4pm that they kept on the med cart for her. She died at 104 and made the paper. So, I agree that the Queen should continue whatever practice has kept her going. If they are afraid that she will stumble, assign escorts. Sometimes you shouldn't fix what isn't broken.

continuing to do so would harm her health at age 95. For her happiness, I hope she tells her Doc "Thanks for the advise but I've decided not to follow it". Hell, I'm not a queen, but I am 78 yo, and my docs have made a number of recommendations that I've chosen to ignore.

52. Interesting point. Regarding her service...

When Princess Elizabeth turned 18 in 1944, she insisted upon joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the women’s branch of the British Army. For several years during the war, Britain had conscripted women to join the war effort. Unmarried women under 30 had to join the armed forces or work on the land or in industry. King George made sure that his daughter was not given a special rank in the Army. She started as a second subaltern in the ATS and was later promoted to Junior Commander, the equivalent of Captain.

Princess Elizabeth began her training as a mechanic in March 1945. She undertook a driving and vehicle maintenance course at Aldershot, qualifying on April 14. Newspapers at the time dubbed her “Princess Auto Mechanic.” There were a wide range of jobs available to female soldiers in the ATS as cooks, telephonists, drivers, postal workers, searchlight operators, and ammunition inspectors. Some women served as part of anti-aircraft units, although they were not allowed to fire the guns. The jobs were dangerous, and during the course of the war, 335 ATS women were killed and many more injured. By June 1945, there were around 200,000 members of the ATS from across the British Empire serving on the home front and in many overseas theaters of war.

She was an old German woman who still had a thick German accent after spending over 80 years in the U.S. Of course her and great-grandpa talked German in the house together most of the time.
He was the direct opposite of her. I don't ever remember seeing him with a smile on his face. They balanced each other out I guess. He only lived to be 97.

The things our ancestors went through in their lifetimes to make better lives for themselves and their families. I wish there was a way to thank them now, because I was way too young to understand at the time.

My great-grandmother used to say, "we get too soon old, and too late smart", in her thick German accent. That's one of the very few things I remember her telling us when we were young children.

I'm sure your great-grandfather was equally as sage as my great-grandmother.
