Virginia House is a tie

I saw a post 20 minutes ago that said that the Republicans gained control.

1. I wouldn't rely on these tweets -- WaPo hasn't called all the races yet:

3. I haven't seen any projections from any networks or news sources

I've just been seeing conflicting info from twitter posts.

5. Wasserman seems to agree it's a tie.

7. But he adds the caveat "if those wins hold" - I would rather wait until

WaPo, NYT, MSNBC, or another similar outlet calls all of these races.

8. Agreed.

But it's a big improvement over an hour or so ago.

4. I suppose it's true we lost the House in that we don't have control of it.

On the other hand, neither do the Republicans.

6. A tie is a loss

Tie goes to the Governor or Lt. Governor, both Republicans.

9. For the Senate, but not for the House.

There's apparently no procedure for tiebreaking in the House. So there will have to be some sort of power-sharing agreement.

10. There is no tie-breaker provision in the Virginia House of Delegates. A tie vote means defeat.

The House of Delegates has 100 members. Whenever there is a tie vote, the proposal is defeated.

Breaking: pending late-arriving mail ballots, provisionals & possible recounts, Republicans pick up five seats in the Virginia House of Delegates for a 50D-50R tie. There is no tie-breaking provision for control of the chamber. #VAHOD

13. Given that there will likely be a Republican governor in charge there now...

...a tie = defeat is a good thing for us.

11. Hoping for the best. A VA Republican House won't certify a Dem win in 2024

Preventing another Republican legislature will be incredibly important for the future of our democracy

15. The same site now says 51/49 red

Looking at actual returns, 52/48 is not out of the question.
