A word regarding elections

Many here are explaining or suggesting reasons etc. for last night's loss in Virginia. I would suggest you all go back and look closely at the 2020 results. In doing so you will find the democratic party did not fare well. We beat trump but republicans won in down ticket races. Did Biden have no coattails? Nope it was just many former trump voters did not vote for president while still voting republican in all other spots.
Democrats must find a better way to message if we expect to avoid a massacre next year. For starters we can extoll the virtues of the build back better program and harp on the republicans for opposing it.
There, I feel a little better now. thanks for listening.

described socialists, voters will be turned away.

They will not vote for a "socialist" or a "socialist agenda" even if they like the details of the proposed bill as many have posted here.

I strongly contest the assertion that Bernie Sanders is "the face of the party".

Further, I think most on DU understand that the right-wing propaganda machine incessantly brands all Democrats as "socialists", except when they're calling them "communists" instead.

They won't be appeased by Democrats taking a more rightward stance. Their opponents will still be "socialists" and "communists" to them.

what they are worried about. This is how in 2016 Trump and Sanders made roads into them. This is why many Sanders supporters - 12% - voted for Trump.

Or, as James Carville said:

You ever get the sense that people in faculty lounges in fancy colleges use a different language than ordinary people? They come up with a word like “Latinx” that no one else uses. Or they use a phrase like “communities of color.” I don’t know anyone who speaks like that. I don’t know anyone who lives in a “community of color.” I know lots of white and Black and brown people and they all live in ... neighborhoods.

If people are worried about family leave, tell them that Democrats in Congress are working on it. If people are worried about prices of medicine, tell them that Democrats in Congress are working on it. If people are worried about elder care - say the same.

You break the high ideas into bread and milk on the table.

"You break the high ideas into bread and milk on the table." Aye to that.

If what you mean to say is that lofty pronouncements from ivory towers won't win elections, then I'm with you.

Why does the first response start out attacking a man who votes with the democrats? This infighting does nothing to help our cause.

Biden
Obama
Hillary
Bill Clinton
Bernie
Schumer
Nancy
AOC
Dick Durbin

But if you'd prefer Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger or Joe Manchin and Kyrrrstin Cinnebon as the standard for the Democratic Party...have at it.

They can get BBB or BIF passed - that would be great to extoll the virtues of.

I would say being against BBB, BIF and VRA.

Leave abortion, police, and gun control out of it next year.

…the very bill that they voted against.

From my view, Democrats want people to feel the benefits they provide but they don’t communicate the fact they they are the ones that provided it.

People don’t make the connection of affordable housing and Democrats; access to affordable healthcare and Democrats; access to affordable education and Democrats; access to affordable food and Democrats; expanded Medicaid and and so on.

Democrats, generally, don’t do that great at making those connections.
