Is it time to nationalize vaccine research, development and production?

Seems to me the centralization of a potentially world killing virus in the future makes that seems almost stupid not to do.

The scientists who work for the windfall profit Covid research behemoths can just as easily work for the people, and bonus, no one will try to hide government scientists assistance in that research and development as Moderna is now attempting to coverup so as to keep more wind in windfall.

2. Well, here's a potential problem with that.

Remember Donald J. Trump? He didn't think COVID-19 was serious. However, vaccine development went on despite his skepticism. Nationalization of vaccine research and development would alter the process, depending on who was in charge.

I don't want people like Trump making decisions about anything having to do with health issues. Nope.

3. In a more perfect world

Perhaps some day in the future when greed is not a primary motivator?

Moderna's behavior is outrageous, but sadly very predictable. I was waiting for something like that to happen.

4. Also, private companies have hired

the smartest and most qualified people in the industry to work in vaccine development. They WANT to make money and they know to do that they have to have a top-notch product. The government... well, let's just say we had the purse designer in and out of the oval office from 2016-2020. We had the CDC telling us during the early months of covid that nope, no one needs to wear masks and they don't do a darn thing when any kindergartener could tell you that was nonsense because why do we sneeze into a tissue and cough into our elbows?

I don't trust the government to consistently do a good job with something like this when who knows who will be elected every 4 years. Sorry.

5. I feel like vaccine development use to be done at the Pentagon, back in the before times

I just remember learning of this growing up in the 50's and early 60's. I grew up in the military, and the subject would come up from time to time. But then, I was also told that our air space was fortified in defense.

USSR nor China could ever invade our airspace.

Decades later 9/11 happened and shattered that myth.
