Capitol riot committee weighing DOJ referrals for 'a range of crimes' by Trump and his allies: NYT
A new report from the New York Times claims that House Select Committee investigating the January 6th riots at the United States Capitol is weighing whether to make criminal referrals against former President Donald Trump and some of his allies.

on a couple of matters.

3. No need to short-circuit the committee for the time being.
DOJ investigations are probably open and could be waiting for criminal referrals (with all the evidence) from the committee to present to the Grand Jury.

4. The DOJ has far, far more resources than a congressional committee to do investigations.
They are not waiting on evidence from a committee.

5. They may (or not) be waiting for formal criminal referrals (as in the OP suggest).
There is no rush (yet) to get it right. No need to double the resources and risk shortcircuiting the results IMHO.
