With all the stories about people getting violent in hospitals,
I thought I would mention this. If you are ever in a medical facility and you hear over the PA system for "Dr. Strong" to report to a certain department or area, avoid that area. Dr Strong is the universal code for a threat of violence. You will usually see every "strong" large male employee headed for that area. It could mean anything from a verbal threat to actual physical violence.

3. I thought Doctor Strong was pretty universal.
Perhaps they have an actual Dr Strong working there. We have a Dr Strong in our county, but he is a Veterinarian.

6. I'm retired but I used to volunteer at our hospital
Security in out small hospital in a small is pretty minimal. Usually only one or two unarmed uniformed people. I haven't been there since the pandemic, but I'm sure they've increased it. There are fewer unlocked doors and they are manned by security. Before I could have walked in there with a bomb and not be challenged. I used to walk in there at 6 am carrying a bag with my laptop and walk the length of the building usually without seeing anyone.

8. Back when I worked at a local hospital, they used color based "codes"
I don't remember all of them, but what I do remember is as follows:
Code Blue: Medical Emergency / Cardiac Arrest (duh) Code Red: Fire / Smoke Emergency Code Pink: Baby Missing / Child Abduction Code White: Violent Patient / Visitor Code Black: Bomb Threat Code Silver: Armed Intruder |

9. They use those here, too.
There's so many of them now that they attach a card to your employee badge listing them

13. One Of The Hospitals By Us Does That
They have it listed for anybody to see at each nurses' station.
Saw it when my dad was in the hospital. That was 20+ years ago so it might be different now. But, IIRC, the color code was the same. I remember a Code Green meaning that trauma conditions were abated. That hospital is a Class II trauma center, so they'd get big interstate accident events, or things like tornado. Class II is pretty much prepared for everything but burns & one or 2 specialties. (This hospital doesn't do brain trauma, either.) My wife's good friend used to work in ER admitting there. She told us a few stories about 20 or 30 people being brought in with severe injuries from a single event. Pretty intense, I guess. |
