The mob was primed to kidnap and murder our elected Representatives. Both Democrats and Republicans were threatened. They wanted to hang Mike Pence. They wanted to kill Nancy Pelosi. What would have happened to Mitt Romney if he had not been directed away from the mob?
They were not protesting for some great cause. They were not protesting because they were denied any basic rights. They were not protesting for any just reason.
They were protesting for Donald Trump. They transferred his anger over losing the election to the attack upon our Capitol. Nothing more and nothing less.
Now, they want to cover it up. They want to portray it as something else. But it is what it is.
So, the question that remains is: Do we hold those responsible accountable for their actions? Or do we allow them to cover it up and to escape any accountability?
Can the country survive either of those responses?

(22,920 posts)The crowd would have killed Pelosi, AOC and others that day, I have no doubt. They'd love to kill Liz Cheney now. If the PTB aren't held accountable, including those in Congress who aided and abetted the crimes of 1/6, I would literally be in fear for my life if I were them if Trumpism isn't squashed soon.
That's what drives me a bit crazy. This is life-and-death stuff for Democratic politicians and anti-Trump politicians. Why aren't they MUCH more aggressive and shouting from the rooftops about it and imploring Garland to do something?
But then I think that's what the 1/6 Commission is handling and they are serious AF about it because they know their lives are in danger from the mob and the criminals who inspire them if they don't do something, and maybe they're confident DOJ WILL do something at a certain point in their investigation as more facts are released to the public.
Idk. But I know this isn't remotely politics as usual and I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone when people discuss it in that manner, especially those who are in most danger.
So, yes, democracy is in danger for sure, but so are many people on the left and even, or perhaps especially, vocal anti-Trump people.
