Wow, I just heard a gunshot

I'd like to think it was a firecracker, but it didn't sound like one. It isn't near midnight, either, and I have never heard gunshots to celebrate the NY, although I know it could happen. This happened in conjunction with my ace guard dog maltipoo, Spike, barking at the patio door. But, this gunshot was not in my yard. Somewhere else...what goes up, must come down. Don't do it!

1. Gunshots Seem More Likely In America

There’s more guns than fireworks in the gun capital of the world.

3. I was playing Halo a few years ago

Couldn't figure out who was shooting at my guy.

Hit mute and kept hearing gunshots. Huh, not from my game apparently.

16. Here in Wisconsin, too. With my husband in the hospital, the kitties are already a little stressed.

Sophia hates loud noises and is under the blanket next to me. Tomorrow we will read about the victims of these celebratory gun firing fools.

8. Buddy just texted me it sounds like he's back in Baghdad

Someone a block or 2 over from him let off something that sounded full auto. Said there's definitely a bunch of gunfire mixed in with the usual fireworks.

9. All my neighbours are shooting

their guns up in the air.

A few years ago in Gastonia, NC a girl was killed by a stray bullet.

Sadly it's a popular tradition around here.

10. It's not even NYD yet on the West Coast

I wonder if I will hear a bunch of weapons going off at midnight. NEVER had this happen before. Times are not what they used to be, but what a waste of ammo. I'm gonna stay away from the windows.

I'm drinking banana-flavored protein drinks instead of eggnog...not bad...a little nervous, what with the fires, earthquakes, dead celebrities, and now gunfire...well, back to YouTube...

11. Wow

Before we moved into our house 16 years ago we had an idiot neighbor that liked to shoot his gun in air every New Years. So stupid. He could've killed someone.

12. Same in Indianoplace, hoping it's fireworks, at least it was earlier

But I didn't go look this time.
Got both my cars in the carport tonight, just in case something comes down.

14. Yeah, I'm hearing gunshots now

We have had a lot of rain this week, so I am not afraid of them starting a fire. But to some people like myself, gunfire is unsettling, not celebratory, and I wish they would quit. I think it is the new neighbors who just built a house.

More than an hour to go, not anywhere near midnight. Why can't they sing or something? That might be nice. A little music, dancing...hate to say it, but my very first thought at hearing that first single gunshot was, OMG, someone has killed himself. Coyotes are not out now...

We all called it that. You could get WLS from Chicago on the radio if it was perched in a north-faced window....

13. When I was a kid, my dad would open

the front door and shout, "Happy New Year!" to the neighborhood. Some of the neighbors shot off guns. I asked my dad why he did not do that. He said, "What goes up must come down."

I had not considered that.

the bottoms of larger kitchen pots and pans with spoons!

Philly had that as a tradition since the 1700s, it took a huge effort to try and reduce it some time in the last 20 year's.

19. I've called 911 to report a shot or shots. Not holiday celebration type.

But I figure if I'm wondering if someone was just killed or about to be, it's worth reporting. Because of trees, we won't know if a cruiser swings by.
