1. I guess I have a difficult time understanding this.
Maybe you can explain it to me. I am for the cause, but I don’t get the method of self starvation.
From my point-of-view: If a child threatens to not eat, fine. Hunger will eventually lead them to eat. Same with holding your breath to get what you want. How does not eating help? Why would the opposition care if you starve yourself? How does that hurt them? Just seeing it from the evil side view, I can’t see them going “oh no, the person is killing themselves, we better do what they ask!” Why would they even give a shit if the person actually died? I don’t mean to sound offensive, that is why I am asking about this method. Those are the thoughts going though my head when I hear someone is trying to change another’s actions by not eating. |

3. Historically, it has been an effective (albeit horrendous) means of directing attention to an issue
A means that was often the only act available to some who were jailed/detained, for example.
I'm glad he stopped. His death would have been both self-defeating and horrendous. |

5. Probably he did it to direct attention to voting rights
If major media covered it more, perhaps the Senate would have persuaded some. At least that was the plan.
