Thinking about Eisenhowser and the 1952 election.

Last edited Fri Feb 4, 2022, 11:09 PM - Edit history (1)

A 21 YO in 1952 would be 90 today. I could easily imagine voting for IKE, solely for his role prosecuting the war against Fascism successfully.

And IKE did change this Party for one brief moment.....see the 1956 Republican Platform - that was IKE's acknowledgement to the American people who paid the price and made the sacrifice to bring this war to an end. Of course, IKE was saddled with Richard Nixon as part of the deal to get the nomination. Take IKE out of the equation and consider the people who became the Republican POTUS after T. Roosevelt. A really impressive bunch of self-dealers and con artists.

Fast forward to 2022....the GOP is now the Party of Trump/Jordan/Cruz/Rubio/Abbott/Rudi/Powell/Jones who announced today that causing violent insurrection is acceptable political expression of Free Speech.

What's the end game here and who is profiting?

In fact, virtually all the Eisenhowers And Rockefellers are now Democrats.

Ike, of course, was a General during WWII, and became so enraged while freeing one of the concentration camps that he had his men round up the whole town and make them see what had been going on.

A now his party is trying hard to be the 21st Century version of Nazism. When prominent Republicans buck that trend, like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, they get publicly called out by the Trump slurpers.

Being in Central Ohio I am not far from Ontario, if push comes to shove....well I’ve checked, Canada is making it easier for Americans, they will even designate a Canadien official to facilitate the move.

I will not endure a fascist regime here.

4. Eisenhower saw it all. The horror in Europe and the honor of those he commanded

Can you imagine being thrust into this moment of time....when you are sending Americans to their death, in order to further a greater objective? IKE was delivered that moment....and I am thankful for that. He got called a 2nd time and what he learned should have had a more compelling moment in our history, Sigh.

Like Putin and the Russian oligarchs did to Russia.

Russia is no longer a country in the traditional sense.
It is land held together by mobsters.

William Howard Taft, Herbert Hoover or Gerald Ford to be self dealers or con artists. (Admittedly, Ford wasn’t elected, but he served.)

5. I'll give you Ford....2nd behind IKE. The other 2, clueless and ineffectual, at best.

Gerry was liked by both sides....he could make deals with Democrats. Democrats were OK with the guy....Chevy Chase owes his career to Pres, Ford.

Point seems to be, we seemed to get fucked, country-wise, when Republicans control the WH.

9. Ike would never be a Republican today

He was a straight shooter.

He was country over party.

He would never sign a loyalty pledge.

He would not tolerate conspiracy theories and lies.

And he would be repulsed by the orange shitgibbon.

Because of the above, his growth in the Republican Party would be stunted. He would get the Liz Chenet/Kinsinger treatment. Forget running for president; he would have trouble running or keeping a senate or U S Rep seat and would have to endure constant primary challenges. I doubt seriously if he would remain a Republican.
