Just wondering ... I really can't stop wondering if sanctions will stop Putin much. I think his

game plan is still questionable, other than I think he wants to bring back the USSR, if even just in his head. I'm wondering just how much Ukraine will be destroyed and can nations just watch this destruction for Putin's ego. With better timing, Ukraine might have been a member of NATO. It torques me to see bullies in positions of power wreaking destruction, often for nebulous self-centered purposes. Who will be next and how far will this go. Is this all just emboldening Putin rather than an obstacle to his war.

We are likely less than 3-6 months away from sending troops into Ukraine. Putin sounds exactly like Hitler did years after WWI; airing imaginary grievances, playing imaginary victim, using dehumanizing language, not acknowledging the existence of certain groups of people, etc etc.

that he has a higher tolerance for suffering than NATO. Notice I said "he" and not Russia.

This could be long and hard.

NATO troops. Now that Putin has done this, Ukraine deserves to have NATO backing.

5. aren't sanctions more focused on hurting the oligarchs and maybe getting the Russian people involved

The war doesn't seem to be popular with the Russian people and the police can't arrest everyone. If their kids start going hungry because of a war they don't want, they may become emboldened.

And if the oligarchs can't access their money and their yachts... I'd bet that Putin is like Trump. Nobody really likes him but they have to pretend to, until his patronage isn't advantageous any more.
