Of course not!
It is not good news. He does not want to be associated with it. He does not want the domestic backlash that might come from the mothers of dead soldiers.
His advisers and generals are too afraid to tell him what's happening? Sound familiar?
Of course, he knew what was happening and what is happening. It's a mess and he doesn't want to get his hands dirty with the bad news.
His people are beginning to feel the pinch of the sanctions and his military has been embarrassed in Ukraine.
Now, he pretends he knew nothing about it?

(26,697 posts)It isnt like hes claiming that he didnt know about the invasion. Nor is it even Putin making the claim.
Some US source is claiming (and the pentagon agreed) that some of his sources are too afraid to admit how badly things have been going and thus hes operating on poor data.

(110,950 posts)In my opinion, it is a propaganda ploy by Putin.

(26,697 posts)If its propaganda
its ours (trying to get him to question whether things are actually worse than hes been told).
Note again that the pentagon has confirmed that this is essentially our belief. Maybe a Trump administration would back up Putin in such a claim
but why would President Biden?

(110,950 posts)...I think it is something Putin would prefer over the alternative.
He would rather not be blamed for any failures in his economy or on the battlefield.
By the way, the Pentagon has been wrong before.

(26,697 posts)It isnt Putins spin. Biden chose to release it. I have no idea why you think Biden would help Putin.

I don't know it it helps Putin as much as he may think it does. He is into self-preservation.
In the short term, it may help Putin from accepting responsibility, but eventually, the Russian people will see it for what it is.
I think Putin is losing this propaganda war. Something he is not accustomed to, I am sure.
I don't think Biden is trying to help Putin??

(110,950 posts)The American intelligence is being released for the Russian people. Russia is not yet a totally-closed society.
But, what is Putin telling his people? I think he is probably telling them exactly what the American intelligence says he is doing.
But the Americans are putting it into perspective for the Russian people.
Not a win for Putin.
It is a counter-intelligence operation.
