(1,965 posts)Chuck Edwards was endorsed by senator Tillis, who also spent a lot of money to help defeat cawthorn. He's a local politician, anti immigration, and is a good ole boy who will go along with the GOPQ agenda, not make waves. But he's not a rabid supporter of tfg, so that's something.
Haven't seen if there's a democratic winner yet, but whoever wins will be at a disadvantage in this +9 red zone. Elections generally run 60/40 their favor. But there's always hope, and a chance we can elect a Democrat to Congress. Heath Shuler, a yellow dog democrat, was our rep for 6 years before we were gerrymandered. Now that we're "un-gerrymandered" we have a better chance, but
Edwards will be hard to beat so we'll have to work hard.
I'm so glad cawthorn lost. I expect him to be more of an ass as he completes his term in Congress. Perhaps he'll resign early and leave us without a congressperson, as Meadows did.
Did I mention I live in his district, but don't call him my representative.

Cawthorn was "asleep at the wheel"...now they're putting a smarter jerk in there
It's like when Ted Cruz beat Lt Gov David Dewhurst in the primary. Hubby said, "Watch out Ted Cruz is extreme"...Well, that was an understatement on hubby's part............

(119,478 posts)He's a hot mess who was an immature, entitled ass even before his accident. After that it seems he never was able to come to terms with what happened, so compensated by acting out and being as outrageous and transgressive as possible. He was far too immature and psychologically damaged to be a Congressman but it was all he had going for him - or all he thought he had going for him. Now that he's lost that, I expect him to either find an extreme right-wing outlet to help him stay in the spotlight, or start having serious substance abuse problems (if he isn't already), or, most likely, both. Without some drastic intervention things will not end well for him.

(58,785 posts)so there's a possibility he'll get more functional and build on whatever he's left himself. He does have a proven talent for self aggrandizement, but within the current RW insanity, itself extremely unstable.
Yours seems the more likely picture, certainly the most usual one, and fingers crossed. Continued self destruction for him and his extremist supporters.

(29,350 posts)I was reading his bio in Wikipedia.
Seems like he was headed toward politics before his accident
Maybe he thought being in the spotlight helped him cope, but probably made him worse..

Hopefully Boebert and Greene also lose their primaries.

(4,371 posts)I live in his district and in NC, independents can vote in either primary but if there is a runoff primary, they must vote that same party if they want to vote. They cannot vote in one party's primary and the other party's runoff. A lot of my friends who register as independents and who voted, did so in the Republican primary specifically to vote against Cawthorn. Some went so far as to look at every candidate for every position they could vote on to see if they favored Trump and if so, voted for someone else.
