To people who dont vote
.
From Elie Mystal
All the people who care to stop school shootings already vote for politicians who also care, and all the people who dont care either vote GOP or dont vote at all. Its all baked in. And the people who dont care have shown that carnage doesnt change their minds.

(8,272 posts)My personal informal polling supports the thesis.
I was hospitalized in Jan of 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus for 7 days.
After 5 days or so I queried my nurses and aids about voting. Were they registered? Were they voting in the 2020 Ohio presidential primary?
They reacted with deer in headlight expressions, and mostly mumbled excuses.
Then, this past April I was in another Cleveland Clinic location and asked nurses and aids the same questions with the same results.
My conclusion is we are fucked. Way too many people do not value voting, see voting as a responsibility, nor understand that voting is the price we pay for having a democracy.
Just sad.

(36,421 posts)Most of my adult life I've only known a handful of others who vote every election. Government impacts every aspect of your life. I can't believe people don't want a say in who runs things. Or are too busy. That said, I live in a state that has made it extremely easy to vote. You can even register & vote on the Election Day. I wrote to Senator Manchin & asked if he thought it was fair or democratic that it's harder for people who live in West Virginia to vote than the people in Colorado. Of course I didn't hear back.
Secretary of State is such a critical position & one that the right is focused on filling. One of the three republican candidates running (our primary is in June) was recently indicted on election violations.
Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters has been indicted by a grand jury on 10 counts related to an ongoing investigation into alleged election equipment tampering and official misconduct, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Peters, a Republican candidate for Colorado secretary of state, faces seven felony charges and four misdemeanors stemming from allegations she violated security protocols last summer in an attempt to prove unfounded claims that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
The charges include three felony counts of attempting to influence a public servant, one felony count of criminal impersonation and one felony identity theft charge, and two felony conspiracy charges. She's also been charged with first degree official misconduct, violation of duty and failing to comply with an order issued by the Colorado Secretary of State, all misdemeanors.
Evidently the GOP is asking her to suspend her campaign. Don't know why. I think she's a perfect fit for the lying, cheating, thieving GOP.
