Milley: Ukraine losing 100 soldiers per day

Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Wednesday in a meeting at NATO headquarters that Ukraine is losing approximately 100 soldiers per day, in addition to up to 300 wounded per day, due to Russia’s months-long onslaught against the country.

“In the media you see reported that Ukraine has taken 100 killed and 100 or 200 or 300 wounded per day. I would say those are in the ballpark of our assessments,” Milley told reporters at the press meeting in Brussels.

He added: “For Ukraine, this is an existential threat.”

The press conference followed President Biden’s announcement Wednesday that he plans to send $1 billion in defense support to Ukraine, in addition to the billions the U.S. has already supplied to its eastern European ally.

Putin has more weapons, more ammunition, a larger army, and DGAF about the lives of his troops, the infrastructure, the cities, or what he does to the Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine.

I don't know what will turn the tide.

Taking SVRdonestk. They have more heavy artillery, and that’s where the casualties are coming from. Russian losses are easily as devastating. Ukraine has said repeatedly they need more heavy weapons to turn the tide of the war. General Miley certainly is right 100 casualties and 300 wounded a day is not sustainable, but that is true for either side.

Russia has actually taken very little territory since 2/24 and Ukraine has taken back Kharkiv and is making progress in the south moving towards Kherson.

Ukraine defense ministry has said they expect to have their full compliment of weapons from the west by the middle of next month and expect things to improve with large counter offensive missions.

Slava Ukraine!

In the meantime, 1,000s will die and many times more will have their homes levelled and lives upended.

War is always a tragedy.
