(512 posts)That is Kap's protest stance of police brutality against people of color. To use that as a protest is disrespectful to that movement. Wear black,no fireworks, no spending money, no celebrations. Please do not kneel. Find another way to show outage without hurting our brothers and sisters of color.

(6,373 posts)You need to revisit the concept of disrespect. It's time to come together for ALL people.
I'm going to wear my flag tee shirt, my freedom shirt, and watch whatever fireworks I can see. I think that kneeling during the Anthem is appropriate because THEN the commentators can explain, on air, why thousands of people are kneeling just like Kaepernick.
Kaep is trying for a football comeback. Do you think he will be kneeling much? How do you know? If you want to show respect, kneel during the Anthem! No matter what color you are!
I won't disrespect those that have fought and died for our country. If you value FREEDOM, you can celebrate it. That's what the Fourth is for. You don't have to sing the Anthem. You can fully explain what is now wrong with our country, you can hold signs, whatever. But, don't say that people kneeling is disrespectful to BLM! It is just the opposite. It recognizes Kaep's protest, and revitalizes it for ALL of us. ALL our lives matter.

(5,753 posts)There isn't much room to take a knee if you're in the stands at a sporting event. Just don't stand up.
My half the country just got our rights stripped. We get to protest any way we see fit.

(512 posts)You dont get to speak for how they may or may not feel. It is their protest stance. You shouldn't try and take it from them. I am as upset as anyone else about SCOTUS decision on abortion. With that said, think before you act. Saying that you can protest any way you see fit shows entitlement.
Btw, I am a southern white woman.
EndlessWire
(6,373 posts)I'm White (I think.) I am a human being, and I can recognize human beings and their situations. If no White person ever spoke up on behalf of what is right, then where would we be? No one is trying to take ANYTHING away from BLM. Kneeling during the Anthem by EVERYONE is a collective statement of outrage.
You say that protesting any way you see fit is ENTITLEMENT. OFFS, get a grip. You say that you are a "southern white woman." So effing what. Is that supposed to indicate that you are of such a class but thoroughly approving of BLM? Get a grip. That's arrogant. There are people before you who were White and died for Black civil rights.
My WHOLE FRICKIN FAMILY were Southern White Belles, just as blonde and fair skinned as you could possibly imagine. We were raised tolerant and respectful. We didn't need an epiphany to recognize humanity in anyone. What we had were parents who raised us right. But, no awards for that. Right is right.
I'm sorry, but I think at this point we need some display of anger that won't get us all killed and is sufficiently stunning to gain attention from media. This is our country beginning to be taken over by fascism, and BLM won't matter much then. I welcome any protest that says a big, fat, fucking NO to fascism.

(5,753 posts)Is that not entitlement? Is that not speaking for them?

(20,733 posts)Or if standing, arms crossed, head bowed. Do not look at the flag, remain silent, don't sing along, etc.
Apply this also to the occasions on which the Pledge of Allegiance is performed (I use that word intentionally).
We are in mourning for our freedom and our lost America.

(9,415 posts)So I found this flag to wave. I think it says a lot.
Maybe when the vendor calls out "PEANUTS" as well.
YMMV. Just a found item. I am not "taking a stand" by posting this.

(51,308 posts)married. I was born here. My dad loved all the American holidays. Both of them are gone now, but I'll celebrate for them
I later served in the USAF. I've still got the flag the USAA gave me when I bought my house. I didn't fly it during tfg's tenure, but I will be flying it tomorrow, just as I did the day President Biden was elected.
I'll bet President Clinton, Carter, Obama, and Biden will all be flying their flags. Carter was the only one who served, but they all respect the flag and for what it stands.
Those republican cretins will not make me hate my country, nor behave as if I do. Nope.

(5,753 posts)... I know they're MAGAts.
I dare you guys to tell them that the flag shirt they're wearing is a desecration of the flag. They won't believe you.
I'm old enough to remember that when teenagers in the late 60s used American flag patches on their jeans the RWers lost their fucking minds over the desecration of the flag. Yet they will adorn themselves in flags from head to foot and they have no clue THAT'S desecration.

(53,001 posts)I don't have any problem with people taking their knee for whatever political purpose, but I myself would prefer to embrace the flag and anthem. The traitors are the Republicans. They don't deserve claim over national icons.
