Like New York state does if the mother is at least 24 weeks pregnant?

Do Americans want to interrupt the flow of new guns and ammunition into the hands of the public?

No.

These are contradictory policy goals.

Our society inevitably comes together every few weeks when some madman uses an AR to shoot up a crowd but we nearly completely ignore the carnage that the gun violence epidemic causes amongst the most marginalized members of our society.

The gun violence epidemic is, by and large, from handguns. Just 3% of gun murders are committed with all rifles combined, including ARs and their variants.

Impoverished and disadvantaged minorities and children are being slaughtered by handguns in the streets every day and yet our outrage seems to be almost entirely directed at high profile mass shooters using AR style rifles.

We need to come together to address the root causes of crime and violence: poverty and wealth disparity, systemic racism and oppression, chronic addiction, the war on drugs, lack of mental health care, and an underfunded education system.

And if we want to talk about gun control, for gods sake talk about handguns before we talk about anything else.

Chicago doesn't even rank in the top 10 cities ranked by gun homicide rates.
It's a fucking free-fire zone everywhere!

Philadelphia and Chicago are extremely close as the number 1 and 2 cities for gun homicide when looking a major cities (over 1 million in population). The same for overall murder.

If you bothered to look. PER 100,000 RESIDENTS. I said among MAJOR CITIES (yep it is right there in my post) which means cities of ONE MILLION or more (That is in my post and link also). Holy shit....

... and picking on Chicago just falls into the RW meme of violent Dem cities.

Any time that anybody posts about Chicago or major cities, I post the whole list, including smaller cities.

Nothing personal.. I just won't let the "Chicago" dogwhistle go unanswered.

Until today. My client watches, it's the first thing I hear when I get to work every morning. Fox or Newsmax. His cable provider no longer carries OANN. So, before Chicago gun violence, it was border crisis, Biden crisis... Today it was Highland Park, late and outdated updates, along with their usual crappy "experts". Pat stupid questions and answers, like "How large is the perimeter around this crime scene?". "Oh, its huge." Derp. Seriously, the back and forth was nauseating. He turned the volume down for me to read live reports from local Chicago news. So, that happened... He's never done that before. I have a tiny glimmer of hope today. That brain isn't completely locked down just yet. I saw a little crack in the rw brainwashed wall.

and the people who live in Chicago are concerned about THEIR city. It is ridiculous to compare large cities with small cities. Large cities have enormous resources that smaller ones don't. People who live in Chicago look at what is happening in other big cities. They don't compare themselves with Akron whether you think they should or not.

Let’s not forget about that.

Not a protest. Not a rally. Nothing where a reasonable person should even expect to be armed or armored.

This is why we can’t have anything nice.
