New York Islanders buy 25,000 Mega Millions lottery tickets

The New York Islanders purchased $50,000 worth of Mega Millions lottery tickets, and if the NHL team holds a winning ticket from the estimated $1.28 billion jackpot, they plan to distribute the money among full-season ticket holders, suite holders, staff and the Islanders Children's Foundation.

The Islanders ordered 25,000 total tickets as Mega Millions hits its second-biggest prize in the lottery's history. If the overall winnings from the lottery tickets are below $250,000, the team will donate the complete amount to the Islanders Children’s Foundation.

I spend about $10 a decade on lottery tickets. Despite the charities, lotteries feed the greed concept

CHICAGO (AP) — Someone in a Chicago suburb beat the odds and won the $1.28 billion Mega Millions jackpot.

According to megamillions.com, there was one jackpot-winning ticket in the draw Friday night, and it was bought at a Speedway gas station and convenience store in Des Plaines.

The winning numbers were: 13-36-45-57-67, Mega Ball: 14.

“We are thrilled to have witnessed one of the biggest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald, currently serving as Lead Director for the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a statement on the lottery’s website. “We’re eager to find out who won and look forward to congratulating the winner soon!”
