Barry Goldwater
If I had been old enough to vote then, I would never have voted for him to be President.
Looking back at his career, he was in favor of an all-volunteer army at a time when that was considered crazy. He told Nixon that it was time for him to resign. Recently, I discovered that he said the abortion debate might threaten "the perpetuation of our form of government."

3. I remember. I have hazy memories ofSenator Joe McCarthy hearings, harassing people on the radio
I didn’t know what was going on but he, to me, was the embodiment of the bogeyman. I did know he was trying to get people to turn against their friends

6. Hillary Clinton would have, but she was only 17 at the time
She volunteered for Goldwater. Luckily, by 1968 she saw the light.
