Pa. GOP House leader irate after staffer locked out of his office, accuses Speaker Rozzi of 'breach
HARRISBURG The partisan rancor that has left the Pennsylvania House of Representatives essentially on lockdown is showing no letup.
The House chamber has been locked up. The speakers office doors were locked on Thursday, and now a House staffer has been locked out of his office.
Without advance notice, Pennsylvania House Speaker Mark Rozzi had the locks changed on doors to an office suite occupied by House Republican staffers after hours on Tuesday as Mr. Rozzi staked the speakers claim to that space on the Capitols fifth floor.
This has left House GOP Leader Bryan Cutler of Lancaster County irate. On Thursday, he sent letters to Mr. Rozzi, Gov. Josh Shapiro and House Chief Clerk Brooke Wheeler demanding answers.
In addition, he said that this latest breach of trust on top of broken promises make Mr. Rozzi unworthy to serve as the chambers presiding officer.
Mr. Rozzi, a Democrat from Berks County, defended his decision to claim that office suite that he said should have been vacated by the GOP leaders chief of staff Jake Smeltz when Mr. Cutlers term as speaker ended on Nov. 30.
