It reminds me of the old term from the early 70's - or maybe it was the late 60's - it was "soul." Nobody really knew what it meant to have "soul" but we all knew that black people had it and white people wanted it. It wasn't exactly a racist term, as I recall. The greatest compliment you could give someone was to call him a "white soul brother" or a woman was a "white soul sister." Kind of silly really, it was just another example of white people appropriating the black community's culture.

That's how "woke" is being used.
