D-Day, June 6, 1944. Allied forces stormed the coast of France and marched into the country to defend the world from Hitler and the Nazi regime. Many died and many were wounded, but in the end the bravery of all those who fought managed to get thru and save the world from absolute evil.
Sadly, 79 years later we are facing a regime takeover by the Republicans. No, not the destruction, but the evilness of the goals to control the country is as almost as bad as an evil dictator.
We must keep fighting for those who cant. Period!

Thinking of you and your dad on this day.
The guys on OB were definitely the greatest generation.
We shall never see the like of them again.
Yes today half the US population would side with the Nazis.
I am glad our dads are no longer alive to see it happening.

(10,946 posts)year of high school. It is mind boggling to look out over the beaches and the channel and try to picture the invasion. And the American Cemetery drives home the loss of American lives.

(4,552 posts)Thousands of American soldiers jump out of planes and land on the ground in the dark. How do you know who is who?
They had clickers to identify fellow American soldiers in the dark. Which worked great until the Germans figured out what they were doing. 82nd Airborne.
If the beach landing failed the paratroopers were doomed and I would not be writing this.
