They idolize Trump based on envy

They envy his wealth and seeming power. They envy his seeming ability to get away with publicly vile racism, misogyny, corruption, hatred, outright fraud, stiffing the people he owes. They want to be just like him, except maybe not under, what is it now? 91 indictments and maybe more coming? Now that conviction and imprisonment is in his future, some are becoming disillusioned. He's looking more and more like a loser, just like them. And who wants to bet on a loser? They'll just go find another degenerate asshole "tough guy" to idolize, because their underlying envy for what they desire hasn't gone away.

I think the bigger problem is that so many people thought we were in a “post racial” America. It’s been jarring and difficult for many to accept that so many racists, bigots are still very much a part of the fabric of this country. We tell ourselves lies, this is not who we are. Nope. It’s exactly who we are. Not all of us, but a good portion of us that we can no longer ignore. Trump gave them permission to be their true bigoted selves.
A perfect example is Giuliani. People have been saying, what happened to Giuliani. He used to be America’s mayor. In reality, this is who he has always been. Chris Hayes did a segment yesterday, showing his sordid past of lies, racism and using the same tactics of trump, saying he lost his first election because minorities cheated. People ignored this behavior. Here we are.

I believe most of his supporters have no hope, whatsoever, of ever achieving wealth, and very little aspiration to get there.

His support is quite opposite of what you postulate: they support him because no matter how low on the economic ladder they happen to be, no matter how miserable their lives are, no matter how little dignity they hold for themselves, they can at least believe that "hey, at least I'm not the lowest of the low... black." Unless you're filthy rich and have much to gain by greedy Republican policy it is ALL about white supremacy.
