ABC article on doomscrolling.
And while doom peddlers on DU aren't posting about the ⚠️ violence and gore ⚠️ (warning) in the article linked below, what they are talking about is capitulating to fascism.
Friends called this "negative psychic energy".
Just a pull quote from the article:
constantly thinking about the information you've seen
feeling depressed beyond some sadness that comes and goes when you are exposed to the information
having nightmares.
How doomscrolling can lead to 'vicarious trauma' and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms

(59,792 posts)the slew of insidious bot farms that are flooding social media platforms with bullshit -- many from Russia, China, and other foreign countries, run by a handful of fuckers working for the 1%.
But thankfully these bots can't vote -- they can only try to discourage us from not voting for Joe, and we can tell them to FUCK OFF.

(53,789 posts)It is "liberal" media voices, people I've trusted for years, that are unnerving me. I don't expect to agree with all of them all the time, but I never thought so many would cave to such political pressure.
They've become like a bunch of frenzied parrots, running around with their hair on fire. In spite of their years of political expertise, they are suggesting that Democrats can just launch a new campaign with a different candidate in a few short months, oblivious to all the complexities involved.
Meanwhile, they are ignoring Trump's disastrous debate performance (as usual), his crazy rally speeches, and now his name all over newly released Epstein documents. What does this man have to do to get their attention?
orange jar
(878 posts)The news literally could not stop talking about Trump 24/7 for ~8 years. He is all they talked about, whether they were criticizing him or drooling over him. Every speech, every tweet/social media post, every time he took a shit.
Now, suddenly, nada
They're staying real quiet about him. It's such an interesting shift.

(53,789 posts)In a way it is bizarre, but I guess Trump coverage has gotten too redundant, nothing new or exciting. I'll bet he realizes that and as such, he doesn't care how off-the-wall his public behavior is.
So now Trump fuckery is just blah, blah, blah, but look over there! "President Biden had a bad debate performance. Maybe he's not up to four more years." Not a particularly great story, but who wants to write more about Trump and his brainless supporters?

(26,839 posts)So, if everyone is wanting Joe to quit, can the hidden reason be that they expect TCF to blow up like a fireball due to trials, convictions, uncontrollable rage, Epstein revelations even more spectacular than the theft and likely sale of classified secrets?
And they want a post-Trump "dark horse" to stand a chance without Joe in the race (in their dreams)

(53,789 posts)You might be giving them too much credit for actually thinking ahead. I think there are some who never liked Joe as a candidate that much and it may have been easy for such people to pounce on this opportunity.
Others, I think have just jumped on that "Step down" train because there was so much hysteria in the air. What has helped me some is that Lawrence O'Donnell didn't succumb to all the pressure. He remained remarkably calm, consistent, and reasonable. He is an absolute treasure.
Desert grandma
(1,081 posts)Totally agree with you PatSeg. He has been the voice of calm reason, and about the only show I am going to watch for a while on MSNBC. Some of the hosts have had guests on their show spouting all of this crazy talk, and I refuse to give them my attention. Maybe I will tune back in again when things settle down. Until then it's Lawrence and recorded Dateline, 20/20 and 48 hour episodes.
PatSeg
(53,789 posts)I will also be avoiding late talk show night hosts/comedians. The endless ageism jokes and snark has really turned me off. It is just plain lazy. You know they won't be able to let Joe's debate performance slide, with no thought as to the repercussions of their words.
When things settle down (they BETTER settle down), I'll come back to some of my favorite shows, but for my sanity, it will mostly be Lawrence and right now, reruns of Cheers. EllenG says she is watching Lawrence and reruns of The West Wing!

Here, we can support the nominee without attacking those that we have trusted for so long.

(53,789 posts)Some of them are going to have to prove themselves to me after this past week. I can forgive and move on, but I may not be able to look at some of them the same way again.
I've mentioned before, that this is leaving the same taste in my mouth as when so many Democrats in the senate called for Al Franken to resign some years back. Later some had the decency to express regrets at least.
As for "Let them do what needs to be done"? What they needed to do was take a long pause and assess the situation better before they started calling for our chosen nominee to step aside. It was not THEIR choice to make, we already made it. That said, at least there were a few sane voices who expressed why this was a disastrous idea. Hopefully those voices will prevail.
