The impeachment of G.W. Bush might have served as a moral reckoning and a recommitment to fundamental values grounded in basic human rights and dignity. In the wake of Nixon's impeachment we saw substantial reforms and renewed commitment to ethics. Had the impeachment of G.W. and Cheney for war crimes taken place -- whatever the outcome -- I think it would have left in it's wake a reaffirmation of the rights and values so many have fought and died for. And, had there been such a national reaffirmation, it could have provided a protective shield against Trump and his base impulses and wanton disregard for our constitution and basic human rights.

We can never know the road not taken, but perhaps somewhere in the multiverse there is even an America that did not go down the war crimes path in the first place because it's Congress rightly judged and threw out the electors appointed pursuant to the incomplete, and therefore unlawful Florida election on 01/06/2001.

Bypassing the sometimes messy work of holding perpetrators accountable in a race to "put it behind us and make sure it doesn't happen again" has always mystified me. How can you make sure it doesn't happen again if the perpetrators aren't held accountable? Reforms aimed at preventing future perpetrators are all well and good, but you've got to deal with the current perpetrators too.

There is a reason the same names keep showing up from scandal to scandal over the decades.

Count me among those who aren't willing to remove W's name from the list of awfuls. He, Reagan, and Daddy Bush helped to pave the way for Trump. At some point, who did the worst becomes irrelevant, they all swim in the same sewer and the depth of the cistern doesn't matter.

I still think W was as bad as Trump. His presidency started with the worst terrorist attack on American soil and ended with the worst economic crises since the great depression.

W was an illegitimate president, appointed by the Supreme Court.

bushthief created the Presidential election stealing roadmap that the orange turd based his 2020 election theft attempt on. The orange turd's 1/6/21 attack on the U.S. capitol stands on the shoulders of the 11/22/00 attack on Government Center in Miami that stopped the legal Florida vote count in Miami-Dade county and was organized and funded by bushthief's campaign including Roger Stone. No one from that 2000 attack was ever prosecuted. Liz Cheney's father was up to his eyeballs in helping bushthief stop the legal Florida vote count in 2000. Liz Cheney has never spoken out against the Bush brother's all out assault on American democracy in Florida in 2000.

1. 9/11 on his watch.

2. The Iraq invasion, which is the single worst American foreign policy decision since Vietnam, at the very least. Also destabilized the entire region.

3. Crashed the economy in 2008.

Trump was capable of worse but is so manifestly incompetent he couldn’t get much done. He did more to destroy our cultural norms than W Bush, however.
