The economic impact of National Parks

As the endless budget discussions always seem to focus (at least from a GOP perspective) on cuts & austerity, this web site allows a look at the local economic impact of the units of the National Park Service.

1. There was a woman on TV last week whining about the closing of 2 camp

sites due to $2 million cut in the Army Corps of Engineers' budget. She said that the only ones being hurt by these actions were the people that used them. She was from an Arkansas county that votes something like 60% Republican. I really wanted to call her and ask her how she feels about cutting all domestic federal services like the Tea Baggers demand. And if she thinks that losing unemployment benefits, Social Security, Medicaid, or Medicare would hurt anybody except those who use those benefits.

2. All the GOP sees when they look at National Parks is...

Cutting down the trees, drilling for oil and mining.

They see oportunities to get richer at the taxpayers expense.
