Most Want Businesses to Offer More Jobs to Those Without Degrees

51% of American Adults believe it would be better for our country if more businesses offered jobs to high school graduates rather than requiring a college degree. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 33% disagree.

One of the curious defenses of credentialization creep that I hear is the querulous query, "Well, gosh, how are employers supposed to know if an applicant has the right mix of submissiveness and agreeableness to do the job? A degree just shows that a person has stick-to-it-iveness and pluck."

I don't know. How did they do it before it took a BA to be considered for an entry level clerical job? Of course, I'm referring to a time when humans hired other humans versus today when computers hire keywords.

1. First off employers do not hire for altruistic reasons, they hire to fill demand

and let's face it, we do not turn our high school graduates with skills that anyone demands. Many can't read, write, or do simple arithmetic - so what good are they to an employer? In fact we've dumbed down college work to the point that many young (and old) people with Bachelor's degrees are just about as ill-equiped as their high-school-graduate counterparts. And as for all that computer-savy nonsense that kids get today with their games and electronic gadgets, about all those prepare a youngster for is job at the local auto-parts store, where the computer terminal is king and any nit-witt can play.
